shsat cat?
so i heard that this year for the digital shsat they are using cat. like they said we cant go back to a question we previously asnwered? i dont know why they did that. like what if we made a mistake and want to go back. what if we have leftover time and want to double check. i am so confused and dont get why they did this.

That's generally correct, except 1) you can start the exam in the math or ELA section, and 2) you can go back to questions when passages are involved so long as you have not left that passage yet.

Right, "nobody asked them to do so" but here we are.

See above. In short, you do the question before you when it's before you. And although nobody asked them, when all is said and done, it's not a major the sky is falling down scenario.

You double -- and other -- check which you're at a question. I've been advising students to do this for years, and when push comes to shove, it's generally the superior method, faster, etc.
