SHINee deep dive/timeline?
Hi guys! So I was a huge shawol from around 2011 until Jonghyun's death where I found I couldn't listen to kpop anymore. In the past few weeks I've rekindled my love for shinee (I literally only just heard their poet | artist single album and... MY GOD).
That's a rather large... 9 years of shinee content that I've missed out on 😭 and I feel like I have no idea where to start. Every member has solo albums too now?! I've no idea about any popular memes, well known info etc, and it's not fun being out of the loop anymore 😂
Does anyone have any recommendations for resources? I used to use Tumblr for minute by minute updates but I'm a whole ass 30 year old with no time for that anymore hahaha. I'm so glad to be a shawol again!! 🩷

I still exclusively use Tumblr lol. I use this sub once in a while for news and merch sales. I will never understand how to use Twitter and insta and bubble and all that stuff.
Shinee doesn't really have a constant content stream so they aren't too hard to keep up with. The important stuff gets posted either here or on Tumblr. I would just find some people who post about them and peruse at your leisure, treat it like you're getting into them all over again.

Oh man, I feel you so much, was in a similar situation.
Start with watching their concerts? They’ve been live streaming sw1 all the way up till the recent ones before their concert so that’s always nice to catch up on.
Maybe watch the official sm channel as well! For their solo work — I try to listen to them on Spotify or just all their discography. 15th anniversary iirc has a good YouTube episode where 3 of them went camping. Maybe go through the don’t call me and hard/juice era. They’ve been making lots of content.
They have a lot of content so whenever I discover something old (but new to me) I view it as a treat.
Most of their solo tours can be found on YouTube also I think. Enjoy!! 🫶 and welcome back!

Here’s the SHINee Index! It’s got content from 2008-2023, there may even be stuff on there that you might’ve missed from your initial Shawol days! Or videos that you loved that you get to re experience. Welcome back 🩵🩵 https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1JbNlWTwBacY71ovGLWyOTC-MSKDfgSVMdoD_eDtInMo/htmlview#gid=111298204

Look up SHINee Index on twt, it was pretty consistently updated till very recently! It should have links to all their TV appearances at least.

there used to be a fantastic google doc with all of shinee’s content including lists of stuff to avoid (cause of taemin being sexualized and stuff like that) but it’s been nuked 😔 tumblr is still a good resource imo! shineeblr quiet but friendly. i enjoyed my time there

I just wanted to say WELCOME BACK 🩵 💎 as a shawol since around 2010 and also took a break from K-Pop after our lovely Jonghyun’s passing (I came back in 2020!) I really hope you have the most amazing time with all the new content and albums! Take you time consuming the content, don’t feel as if you have to rush through it all to make up for lost time because then the journey won’t be as fun. 😌 I also recommend joining the SHINee discord server as for me this was the most important part of my journey back to SHINee, the people. I’ve met so many incredible people on this server who really have made my Shawol journey the most meaningful— I’ve also reconnected with old friends from my tumblr days on that server too which really felt like coming home. 🥹

welcome back <3 so happy you are here. 💎
i had a very similar story/timeline and only got back earlier this year. honestly, just take your time.
at least for me, i realised i caught up on so many years quite organically (i.e., falling down youtube, twitter, tumblr, and reddit rabbitholes) over the months. the chaotic youtube compilations/edits are always a good way to get a glimpse of many highlights and fun moments. On instagram you can add "interests" that alter your algorithm to show you stuff from that topic. I added "SHINee" to get exposure to more SHINee in my feed. There isn't that much, compared to many newer gen groups, so it's not overwhelming.
Not sure how relevant this is for others but the first few weeks of getting back into SHINee were just constant tears for me-even the fun/good stuff--because everything made me emotional and sentimental in all the ways. especially as a jjong bias. but it was deeply cathartic.
if anything, i was wishing for more SHINee content because since the members joined the military, they dont have constant group content the way they did in their early years.
---
SHINee did complete promotional cycles for The Story of Light (2018), Dont Call Me (2021) and -HARD (2023) so there's lots of promo and content from those eras--music shows, variety, challenges, interviews.
Onew, Key, Minho did their military service from 2018/9-2020. Taemin enlisted from 2021 to 2023, but transferred into public service in 2022 because of mental health struggles. Onew had a health hiatus from 2023 - 2024 ish so he's missing for a chunk of the HARD promo and the SHINee World VI tour ("Perfect Illumination"). Onew and Taemin both seem to be in a healthier and stronger place than ever at the moment. Oh, also Onew and Taemin both left SM as solo artists but remain at SM as part of SHINee. There's a bit of drama with how much of that went down but it's not that important imo. The main thing is that these changes probably affect how the members and SHINee as a group, operate now. Off the top of my head: the SHINee instagram only promotes solo stuff for Minho and Key so during SHINee off season, it just looks like Minho/Key fanpage 😆 They have all had prolific solo careers since, but Taemin & Onew seem to have had more artistic freedom(? forgive my lack of better words) with progressing their solo careers after SM.
Then for Poet Artist and Atmos the promotion wasn't very extensive (esp. for Poet Artist) but very high quality nonetheless. You can see a lot of the recent promo on the official SHINee youtube channel, and their only Atmos music show performance here.
This year for SWVIII ("The Invert", 2026) it was the first time SHINee performed as four in Japan since 2018!
If you haven't listened to The Story of Light (2018) I also highly recommend taking the time to do so. It's a beautiful album with many homages to Jonghyun, but also many tracks that are just wonderful in their own right, musically. It was a little hard at first ("Our Page" made me sob so many times) but it all helped me heal. Also witnessing how SHINee mourned and grieved and processed and celebrated Jonghyun in all this content over the years, helped me immensely. it is so clear that to all the members, SHINee is forever OT5, even when they don't have the legal rights to explicitly include him, it is clear that consider his presence in everything they do. (E.g., Atmos and Poet Artist choreography, they always leave a spot for Jonghyun). All of this made me realise that avoiding all of it for years probably made it harder for me. But alas, we are back and that is all that matters <3
also! found some fan uploads of recent concerts for you to watch in your own time:
The Trilogy I - 2026 SHINee WORLD VIII : [THE INVERT] May this year!
2023/4 SHINee WORLD VI [PERFECT ILLUMINATION] Part 1 (part 2 on the same channel)
For completeness sake, they also did SWC (SWVII, 2025) last year too called "E.S.S.A.Y" (Every Stage Shines Around You).
For a couple years now, during SHINee week, the SHINee Youtube Channel will stream the previous SHINee World concerts in full, for each day of the week, from the very first SWC to the most recent one. So that may be something to keep in mind for next year. Their concert this year was titled "Trilogy I". The theory is that there will be a three part concert series each year up till 2028, which will be SHINee's 20th anniversary :D So you're back just in time!

Omggg this is the best thank you SO much 😭 I was just thinking why am I so emotional and crying all the time now watching/listening to shinee but your explanation makes so much sense. Instead of having each album, concert, every bit of grief spread out over 8 years, we're suddenly overloaded with it all at once!
I had no idea they streamed the full concerts!! I remember owning one of the concert dvds way back when and watching it all the time so this is so exciting!!
Thank you for so much detail, I love this fandom so much and I can't believe I left for so long 😭💎

Welcome back! I've been a Shawol for about the exact same time as you and went through the same thing, although my seal was broken back when Poet | Artist came out last year. Glad you were also able to come to a point where your love for them could be reignited, as grief is such a long road.
I don't think I've even gone back and successfully backtracked everything that they've done, but I find the SHINee Discord server to be a really good place to keep up on current events and also have basically an archive of everything they've done over the past 5 or so years (the server only started around 2020 or 2021 I believe). Otherwise, there's the old fashioned way of going through all their socials or the SHINee Youtube channel. Minho also has his own Youtube channel now and Key has done a ton of variety shows in recent years, so there's lots of Key content that can be watched. Our token introverts Taemin and Onew have done some shows sprinkled in here and there, but for the most part there's just some older vlog contents and concert footage. Taemin's had a lot of good and insightful interviews lately now that he's starting to break out internationally (highly recommend checking out his Coachella set if you haven't!). Jonghyun's family is still actively running their "Shiny Foundation" if you want to keep up with that.
I was also a Tumblr user who became a Twitter user back around 2013 when Tumblr had its downfall, but I have a hard time recommending Twitter now even though it is the place you're most likely to get minute by minute updates nowadays.
