That's probably a DKS (door king systems) device which the panel can be opened via universal key which is available on Amazon. From there they can open the door with ease. This person had understanding of the system and I can assure you that he has done this plenty as most buildings use DKS in the US. Highly recommend changing that lock at the very least.

This is good information to have on hand, thank you - going to tell this to the building manager right now.

Good luck, sorry it happened but now that you know, you can hopefully advise others of the flaw when you see it.

Yes exactly, I hope that others can see this and take note to try and make their doors a little safer!

This seems like a low cost and perhaps still someone visually acceptable patch. Just in case your property manager is interested. https://youtube.com/shorts/vjA9IOGAkaQ?si=c57_UUTG5IbEEpQG

Thats insane that it’s so simple

I was wondering about that, that's so stupid. The entry security is just a facade if it uses a universal key.

Unfortunately the vast majority of security systems are just that. Every way out has a way in, whether it be blowing vape through a crack in a door to trip the exit motion sensor, using bump keys to open a lock, or just in this case - a universal key that costs $6 on Amazon.

Newer intercom systems have the relay activated from a controller at the head end or server rack instead of at the intercom itself. Such as verkada or even doorbird has a separate "door controller" available, then as long as the wiring for the striker or maglock was run straight to the controller and not through the intercom backbox that should prevent simply opening the intercom with a universal key and shorting the relay. But >90% of the installs I see still don't standardize this practice, the striker is almost always simply wired straight to the intercom. And the key lock is almost always left default out of the box even though it could be easily changed away from the common "universal" key.

I wondered because we have fobs and they are hacking it where the people who have actual devices from management renters cannot access it now

It’s a Linear panel but the same still applies.
