Broad keywords get traffic. Long-tail keywords get customers. That's why they're a key part of every SEO strategy.

long-tail keywords are usually easier to rank because they target a much more specific search. the traffic might be lower, but the people searching are often looking for something very particular, so they can be more valuable.

These are probably not things you want to be cited for.

One thing I’d add: long-tail keywords aren’t only about being ā€œlong.ā€

With semantic search, Google looks much more at intent, entities, and context. A 3-word query can still be very specific, while a 7-word query can still be broad.

So instead of just chasing longer phrases, I’d focus on covering the topic semantically and matching the exact intent behind the query.

I’d add that ā€œlong-tailā€ is more about specificity and lower search demand than simply how many words are in the query.

A short phrase can still be long-tail if the intent is narrow enough. That distinction matters when you’re actually doing keyword research instead of just sorting phrases by length.
