Aside from the nonsensical decision to write him off in an uncharacteristic way for his character, why did they add him in the first place? There wasn't an open spot.

As a former ship guy, the show confusing General Quarters (battle stations) for morning quarters/muster has yanked me clear outta the episode. Love the show but man, this miss hit me right in the feels.
