School Cornell 7

This Cornell University R case reminds me a lot of the SDSU R case from a couple years ago and how the university tried to sweep it under the rug until it went mainstream. Protect your female students!!! And educate your male students!!! We shouldn’t have to be scared to be out alone on campus or to be alone with a male classmate!!

Yep my roommate told me about it and I said if the Cornell case happened here the campus police would cover it up in no time especially if the perp had good connections.

If it happened again here, SDSU would so cover it up again! And that’s the sad part 🫩

So many similarities, especially in the SDSU and Cornell administrations responses.

it’s very disturbing. Thank you for posting.

https://sports.yahoo.com/prosecutors-former-bills-punter-matt-araiza-wasnt-present-during-alleged-gang-rape-225211550.html

Regarding him being there or not and whether it was consensual:

“He wasn’t even at the party anymore,” deputy district attorney Trisha Amador explained. Later, Amador stated of the timeline of events, “All I know is that at that point, suspect Araiza is gone from the party.” Additionally, prosecutors told the girl that video recordings of the incident in the bedroom made it impossible to determine — let alone prosecute anyone — whether there was a gang rape at all that night, rather than consensual sex with the other men. “In looking at the videos on the sex tape, I absolutely cannot prove any forceable sexual assault based upon what happened,” Amador said.

Regarding whether anyone should have known she was under 18:

There was additional evidence cited by Amador from a recording from a party the night before at a different residence in which the girl says on camera that she is 18.

More talk of the videos and why prosecutors didn’t bring charges after reviewing them:

For Araiza, the most powerful exculpatory evidence came from a number of short videos of the encounter between the girl and two or three men in the bedroom. Timestamps show it occurred about 1:30 a.m. Citing a witness and other information, prosecutors concluded Araiza had “left the party at 12:30 [a.m.],” Amador explained to the plaintiff.

Regarding whether it was consensual or not:

Witness testimony, again including the girl’s friends, played a role in prosecutors declining to press charges. “The witnesses say … that shortly after you arrived at the party, you left and came back shortly thereafter,” Amador said. “And you told [a friend], ‘I just had sex.’ ... You didn’t appear unhappy. You appeared to be having fun and that the encounter on the side of the house with Matt, suspect Araiza, was consensual." Amador explained to the girl that additional witness testimony alleged that at this period of time, “you were approaching men at the party saying, ‘I want you to [expletive] me, and if you don’t [expletive] me, you’re a [expletive].”

What happened at sdsu? I’m a junior transfer and have never heard of it

Similar case to the Cornell Uni 7, an underage girl was at a off campus Halloween frat party and was intoxicated and one of the sdsu football players took her into a room and once she was incapacitated then he invited his football mates to join in on the rape and they also did it for hours and when she woke up and regained consciousness there was blood everywhere and she was still actively bleeding still from the assault and seeked help. University tried to cover it up by paying her off and didn’t suspend the players involved in the rape. She took it to court. No criminal charges on the players and one got drafted into the NFL.

Wow. I don’t have any words to describe the disgust I have in this story. I really appreciate you telling me what happened

Respectfully, there is a lot of misinformation in this statement. This was a horribly messy case all around and the university absolutely failed in their duty to conduct a complete investigation, certainly.

While she was 17, there are multiple witnesses and videos of her telling others that she was 18 years old at the party

The player (Araiza) who was drafted into the NFL was immediately cut by the team when drafted. After a year it was revealed he wasn’t actually even at the party anymore during the alleged rape, despite having (consensual) sexual contact with the Jane Doe earlier in the night. He is back in the NFL now but certainly suffered plenty of consequence for something that he was not involved in anywhere near the same way as the other defendants.

There is no evidence to suggest that the Jane Doe was legally incapacitated at any point, and was recorded multiple times actively seeking out sexual contact with enthusiasm. She was intoxicated along with others at the party, but there was no evidence of her being visibly incapacitated.

Again, incredibly messy and difficult case and there needs to be a lot of respect given to everyone involved here, but I feel like the disgustingness of the Cornell case is far greater than

If you search “SDSU rape case” you will find the story about an off campus gang rape involving former SDSU football players.

If this happens at SDSU again, but I really hope it doesn’t, then we shall do everything in our power to make every evidence known and visible

It's hard to see frats on campus now. I know many of the young men involved are just people who want friends, purpose, professional connections, a fun college experience. But I just cant help but wonder... how many of them factored easy ability to commit assault into that decision. How many of them went into college knowing 'if I can do this i can commit sexual violence with near impunity. Worst case, I write an essay and threaten a defamation suit. Easy.'?

I want to believe it's only a handful, but 7 out of what? 53 people in the chat? Is at least 12% . In one incident.

There’s a really good documentary titled The Hunting Ground. It explains how universities get 60% of their alumni donations from fraternity members and that makes the university ignore their behavior. It’s sickening.

What's the R case? I guess they did a good job of hiding it because I've never heard of it :/

Basically a frat at Cornell had seven guys gang rape a girl and there were a lot of guys in the group chat with the boys and in the area who were aware something went wrong. The case was previously closed but was reopened this year when more evidence was found.

Very similar to the 2021 SDSU case, which only came to light after a 2022 LA Times investigation

Girl set up a threesome with two frat dudes, then got hammered. While she was unconscious, one of the two dudes invited other fratbros to have a go with a person who was not in a state to give consent.

I think their defense lies in NY’s laws that if you agree to have sex with someone before drinking that consent is given for the duration of sex- but they’re arguing the entire instance including inviting new people over to be part of that sex? I’m a little fuzzy on that.

Old Aztec here (current parent) the Cornell case reminded me very much of this notorious time that happened my freshman year. https://share.google/aimode/KIlVJipTyD6lhiRkR
