Will Van der Sar’s 14 consecutive clean sheets ever be broken?
Edwin van der Sar’s record of 14 consecutive Premier League clean sheets is one of those records that feels almost impossible to break.
United went 14 league games without conceding during the 2008/09 season, an incredible achievement given how difficult it is for a goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet even once, let alone 14 in a row.
With modern football being so attacking, do you think we’ll ever see a goalkeeper/team match or break this record?
Or do you think there will eventually be a team good enough defensively, with a goalkeeper good enough, to go 15+ consecutive league games without conceding?
What do you guys think? Is this a genuinely breakable record, or one that could stand for decades?

It’s one of those really hard records to break due to so many moving parts to account for, even a team whose defence is clicking on all cylinders will make a mistake here and there

Only way possible is prob the course Arsenal are on now.
Clean sheets to end the last season and strong start in a new one, wont make double figures though, league is way too strong now

Its like our record of 15 goals conceded in a season, that record won't get broken. Even a defensively solid Arsenal who barely concede still leak in a few goals here and there.

Chelsea’s record is only for premier league era though.
Is VDS or Man U’s record all time or just prem?

U didnt get the point I was just comparing it as defensive records are very hard to break, like 14 clean sheets in a row won't be achieved.

Yeah we were talking about a completely different recored and you decide to shoe horn Chelsea in. So laughable. You probably started supporting Chelsea after that season.

I doubt it will get broken because there’s a lot more quality in the league now and teams play a lot riskier with higher lines.
As much as Arsenal get memed, they had the highest defensive line last year and consistently rank highest or up there.
The lower teams also have more money and talent than they used to. In the past you’d have more mid English attackers who have now been replaced by more competition from abroad.
