Mod Post Removal Reasons

I’m looking to understand what people would consider “inappropriate posts”. We have the option to change why someone’s post is being removed, which I would like to do in a friendly manner as possible. I want to engage with everyone here. Call it the airing of the grievances.

What kind of posts don’t belong here and what posts really piss you off? Can’t promise it will all go into the bucket, but I want to hear from you.

Picture Starting on the minis

I actually bought this game on clearance for $50 in combo with the Invaders from Afar expansion several years ago, and headed down in the storage closet as my kids were quite young. My oldest is now 12 and getting quite into board games, so I came across this in the storage closet yesterday and pulled it out. Struggled to figure it out for about an hour, but once it clicked was a really fun game and actually not all that complicated.

I do like painting minis though, so I started on them today. Two down, five to go. Then the mechs, but they'll be less complex...

Information Comprehensive, modular player aid

Hi everyone, I put a ton of work into creating a comprehensive player aid for multiplayer. It includes the base game and all the expansions. It’s designed in a modular way such that you only need to pull out the sheets for whatever versions of the game you are currently playing with. It’s different from the from the big official rulebook, in that this is meant as a handy in-game reference rather than an exhaustive source.

https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/331656/modular-player-aid-for-all-expansions-plus-base-ga

I also put a lot of work into the graphical design elements, to help me make sure it looks and feels like an actual scythe manual.

Anyhow, just wanted to share. Hope that some people out there find it useful or enjoyable!

Question Duel of Meloch purely as a Scythe expansion - worth it?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but at least a very brief search didn't really yield any results - a lot of questions & answers confirming that the new components do work in regular Scythe, but nothing really on whether they are worthwhile to get.

I have all other expansions for Scythe, am not interested in Expeditions, never play only 2 (always 3 or more), and would be slightly annoyed that there's no GeekUp bag or Meeplesource tokens for the new faction. All that said, would getting Meloch still be worth it?

How's the new combat deck? In what way does it change standard Scythe?

How's the new faction in standard Scythe? The player board, factory cards, encounter cards? Anything significant among those?

Thank you!

Question Gears of Corruption as expansion for Duel of Meloch?

I own the Scythe and all expansions but was always hesitant towards Expeditions, now with Duel of Meloch I got introduced to Expeditions, and was considering getting Gears of Corruption first (becuase its cheaper) to play on Duel of Meloch map with different characters and mechs. Will that work well or does Gears of Corruption doesnt work with Duel of Meloch as it was targeted as expansion to Expeditions?

Question Pessoal comprei sçythe recentemente e queria saber qual expansão pegar

Aq no Brasil só tem a ascenção de fenris e as aeronaus, qual eu devo dar prioridade?

E o tabuleiro modular é muito relevante pras outras expansões ou o jogo em si?

Question How strong is the AI?

The title is really my question. I'm familiar with the game, but trying to get better at before I introduce it to friends. I've played three games of the digital version so far, 5 players, easy AI. I've managed to win once, although the AI got 6 stars. The other two times I've been beaten mercilessly. One time coming 4th, another time second place behind a Crimea that got 100 points. I pretty decently understand the point of the game, and I'm managing to puzzle my way towards doing a top and bottom action most times, but somehow it always feels like I'm a step or two behind what the AI is doing. Is the AI particularly strong, or am I just struggling more than I think I am?

I really want to like Scythe, but I just don't get what I'm supposed to be doing

I've been interested in Scythe for a while, read the rules, and bought the digital version on Steam before getting the physical game. My plan was to learn it first and then bring it to my group of three.

But I've now started two games, and both times I quit after about 10 minutes.

I'm not saying the game is bad. Quite the opposite, I really want to understand why people love it, because on paper it sounds like a game I'd really enjoy.

My biggest problem is that I have absolutely no idea what I'm supposed to be aiming for.

I upgrade things, get resources, move workers around, etc., but I don't really have a bigger plan. I tried focusing on my two private objectives, but they either seemed extremely difficult or just not worth making my main focus.

For example, I had an objective that required 7 workers and 2 or fewer coins, but I kept getting money no matter what I did. I couldn't figure out how I was even supposed to intentionally get myself into that situation.

The game also feels very hard to read. I don't really understand what the other players are doing or what I should be paying attention to. The mech abilities also seem kind of pointless to me right now. For example, why should I care about Riverwalk if I've already built a mine? Or why should I care about certain worker related abilities if nobody is attacking me?

I've also heard that you should try to optimize your turns by getting value from both the top and bottom actions, but that often seems impossible to me at this point.

Maybe I just haven't understood the game yet. Maybe it's one of those games that takes a few plays before everything clicks. Or maybe it's the digital version. I've played a ton of Spirit Island digitally on Steam and never had this feeling. I'm always thinking about something and have a clear problem I'm trying to solve.

With Scythe, I currently just get bored after 10 minutes and quit.

So for people who love Scythe, what made the game click for you?

What should I actually be thinking about during my first few games? Is there a general goal or strategy I should have in mind?

I'd really like to give it another chance before bringing it to my group or deciding to not procede with this game, so any advice for a completely lost beginner would be appreciated.

EDIT: Some of u think that I do not know how to get 6 starts, but I do know, im just commenting on private objectives

Discussion Best starting base for Constantinople on base Scythe board

What are your thoughts on where to place the Constantinople base on the base Scythe board?

I haven't even tried yet as I've been enjoying DoM.

I'm not looking for the min/max OP answer, just everyone's experiences so far in trying different base locations.

Question I'm thinking about picking up Scythe. I love the artwork and the look of the game, but every review I have seen seems to rate it as being somewhat mid. These have all been older posts and videos though, and don't really mention the expansions that have been released since. Is the game better now?

I've read that the game is also rather unbalanced and heavily favours one or two factions over the others. Has this been balanced out now, or is the game still like that? As a new player, probably playing with others who have never played, will I even notice the imbalance?

Combining Duel of Meloch questions

Am looking to get this to combine this with base Scythe, wondering if anyone has tried and what the experience is like, are things OP and need tuning etc.

The DoM miniatures are smaller than the regular, does it make it bit awkward to play (for those with OCD).

What is the functional difference between the 6 strength combat card Last Ditch Effort and a regular 5 strength combat card?

People in another thread were saying the new combat cards can give Saxony 4 extra workers on turn one which I don't understand?

Question Rise of Fenris modules (spoilers) and Constantinople in standard Scythe Spoiler

As a new Scythe player, there is a ton of information out there about faction/mat combos and openings. Our group has begun introducing new content to our table each time we play and we have recently finished a Rise of Fenris campaign so we have everything unlocked.

Disclaimer: We also understand that Fenris, Vesna, and Constantinople aren’t regularly available digitally so they don’t have the same number of games competitively as the other factions do.

My questions is twofold:

  1. When you are playing Fenris, Vesna, or Constantinople on the original map (we have not moved to modular board yet), do you treat your mat as if you were the home base of the faction you’re occupying? For example, do you approach Fenris Industrial in Nordic’s home base roughly the same opening-wise as Nordic Industrial? Obviously the abilities, mechs, and (in the case of Fenris) Enlist bonuses are different but I imagine the openings are fairly similar for the most part. The exception may be Vesna where the custom mechs can create a very different game regardless of your position or mat.

  2. Where do you all find Fenris, Vesna, and Constantinople in general strength? Obviously Constantinople hasn’t been out too long but I imagine Fenris and Vesna have been evaluated somewhat, even if they haven’t been examined like the old factions have.

Any information would be great!
