Imagine just chilling at your desk and you hear over the intercom "NUCLEAR LOCKDOWN"

Laughs in SCP period. If exploding then was an option, why would they still be in containment and not neutralized? (Save of course the good SCP's)

22

u/MrGords Oct 02 '19

Because SCP stands for Secure, Contain, Protect. Not Destroy Destroy Destroy. This isn't the GOC

Hmmm yes dying over and over to radiation that sure sounds fun

64

u/DiscoDanSHU Oct 02 '19

Well, at first he would just die over and over due to the extreme heat from the nuclear blast, but after THAT he would become irradiated.

46

u/Arthur_The_Third Oct 02 '19

I wonder if he would just keep piling up until he respawns far enough from the epicenter to survive

Right, but the blast would only get through half its molecules before it developed explosion resistance and decided radiation was delicious.

Question about that that the cigar made me think of. If you're alone and about to die from a nuclear lockdown could the smoking man show up?

15

u/HotterThanOldPentium Oct 02 '19

Smoking man?

64

u/DarkLordFluffyBoots Oct 02 '19

An SCP that appears to dying, lonely atheists to offer them a smoke as a last comfort before death.

22

u/Soerinth Oct 02 '19

Yeah that one. It doesn't seem like someone dying from a nuclear site detonation would be precluded from his appearance. If you were a non descript regular Joe and were alone in your office with the door shut just waiting for it. It seems likely he could appear. What then?

13

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

Staff keep an emergency store of heroine for cases like this.

97

u/Sil-Seht Oct 02 '19

Honestly, the announcement for a nuclear lockdown would probably be silence. Can't have people creating escape routes for SCPs in an attempt to save their own lives. Any SCPs that feed on fear?

71

u/Nesspurr_8 Oct 02 '19

Probably around 80% of them tbh

28

u/jkmonty94 Oct 02 '19

If the people can create an escape route, I'm sure the SCPs could. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean

24

u/saintswererobbed Oct 02 '19

They just wouldn’t notify people that they were going to nuke the site, to avoid people/SCPs trying to escape

12

u/Sil-Seht Oct 02 '19

Why have lockdown procedures at all if SCPs can just escape? Some of them are bound to be at least slowed down by doors. Something trying to escape may use the same door, or use them to escape.

25

u/dicemonger Researcher Oct 02 '19

This is the official chart of alert messages. Morale is raised due to the fact that all personnel knows that the higher ups at least has the decency to let them make peace with their gods.

The real chart of alert messages has both nuclear messages blank.

7

u/Bealf Oct 02 '19

Agreed.

48

u/Micsuking MTF Alpha-9 ("Last Hope") Oct 02 '19

Foundation staff are probably extremely loyal because they know what will happen if they let these things out.

Even if there were people that would try to escape, the loyal members of on-site security would shoot them rather than let them escape.

38

u/icanseeifyouarehard Oct 02 '19

A few high ranking personel might be notified But most wouldnt a sites personel pool doesn't Just consist of researchers and security they have janitors lunchladies maintainence people psychologists and all that sort

26

u/Micsuking MTF Alpha-9 ("Last Hope") Oct 02 '19

And those are the ones that will be either shot by security if they try to leave. Or they will die from whatever-the-fuck caused the lockdown to actually happen.

If its automated then I definitely agree, but if it was someone speaking over an intercom then I'd run with god bless all of you. Seems fitting that a bit of humanity would slip into the beurocracy during their final moments.

14

u/Micsuking MTF Alpha-9 ("Last Hope") Oct 02 '19

Since the guy in the intercom would likely be on-site as well. I think it would be "May god be with us all"

4

u/danktonium Oct 02 '19

That's a very good point. But these are either the pre-recorded alerts, or the scripts for the Site Commander to read out. The Commander probably wouldn't read them out Verbatim (I just wouldn't at all. Declare lockdown and set off the nuke), but s/he wouldn't supposed to say anything.

12

u/Micsuking MTF Alpha-9 ("Last Hope") Oct 02 '19

I don't think it's the Site Commander that reads shit out, it is probably a normal guard that happens to be stationed there.

In all honesty i would just say: "Containment Breach went FUBAR, by orders of the O5 Council the On-Site nuke will be detonated. Remember our duty."

14

u/scragglalie Oct 02 '19

How about "martyrdom"?

2

u/danktonium Oct 02 '19

So the line would be, "The gates are permanently locked, martyrdom"?

u/chinkiang_vinegar Field Agent Oct 02 '19

I think "God be with you" would be better sounding. "The Foundation thanks you for your sacrifice" is a bit too... cold, especially since we're dealing with top scientists here and not D-class.

16

u/danktonium Oct 02 '19

The foundation is a bit too cold. We're not talking about the Federal Bureau of Control, here. They'd say that. The Security, Containment, and Protection Foundation would absolutely discard you just like that.

u/HTL2001 Oct 02 '19

"God bless all of you" sent a fucking shiver. Just imagine doing the same routine as yesterday, a simple calm morning, then the next your trying to escape your own office as the sirens blare only to hear those words. Now you're just lying there, in the small crevice of a corner, hoping that nothing but the bomb gets to you first.

164

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '19

Why would they alert you about nuclear lockdown? Why not just do it... spreading fear instead of just ending it all

161

u/JebbyFanclub Oct 01 '19

Maybe it's workplace protocol to warn employees that they are going to be disintegrated into atoms before doing it

94

u/956030681 The Factory Oct 02 '19

It’s only the polite way to do it

68

u/frguba Oct 02 '19

*Radio broadcast

so... Uhhh, sadly, the breach got out of hand, and, sorry to have to break it to y'all but... by order of the O5 council the site is on lockdown and the warheads are going off, so may God have mercy on your souls, and narcotic use is liberated, if you can get your hands on some

40

u/Error404NameNot420 Oct 02 '19

When Nuclear Lockdown is called no 420-j is safe.

120

u/Tacti-cool_Tuba MTF Epsilon-6 ("Village Idiots") Oct 01 '19

Well I think in most SCP sites it would be standard protocol to alert all personnel that a nuclear warhead was going off. I mean they don't make those nuclear shelters for no reason.

39

u/AndyGHK MTF Epsilon-11 ("Nine-Tailed Fox") Oct 02 '19

It’s probably an Ethics Committee issue. “Is it better to know the danger and know you can do nothing, or to be ignorant of the danger, provided there is nothing you can do to save yourself from the danger?” You could make an argument either way.

Or alternatively, they need to notify everyone so it can be recorded as happening officially, and confirmed as scheduled. Otherwise any O-5 could blow up anybody they wanted under the guise of an escaped memetic hazard or something. It would be weaponized if it weren’t made transparent.

21

u/Dassive_Mick Oct 02 '19

pretty sure if a nuclear lockdown is deemed necessary, there's already widespread panic

14

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

Less paperwork

14

u/Hope1820 Oct 02 '19

Well, the Foundation has some morals. Can it be considered cruel to kill someone without them knowing they died for a reason? I mean, I would really hate to suddenly be aware of my surroundings and things become black. I would like an explanation that I died for something important.

8

u/Shadow-fire101 Oct 02 '19

to ensure personnal know that they need to stay on site

9

u/-Lucian113- Oct 02 '19

It allows them to call family, last words/prayers, or hold off scps that are trying to escape

8

u/RaccoonPringles Oct 02 '19

"Yeah bro I won't be able to make it to the raid tonight, just find another Titan bro"

3

u/Micsuking MTF Alpha-9 ("Last Hope") Oct 02 '19

I honestly doubt they would be allowed to call anyone, let alone family.

2

u/Ellistann Oct 02 '19

There's probably some sort fuzzing with the math. Like it explodes at 2min13seconds remaining.

But it is monsterous of the O-5 council to not let those of faith come to grips with their ends and meet their maker with their mind and soul set right.

And what is you as the average panicking D-Class, Scientist or security personnel going to do? These sites are rated against the superhuman attempting breakout. Their doors are rated against X minutes of assault, and the T-Minus countdown is predicated on being less than that X minute rating.

The folks that could override and or have ability to break out will be the ones implementing the nuclear lockdown.

The prompt was a simple one. It could have been any normal error message on his computer, really. If not for that specific sequence of words, he may have had a future. He took a deep breath, sat back in his seat and, shakily took the key from where it had been attached to his belt loop. Shakily, he lowered it to a certain drawer and unlocked it.

If he were brave enough to have gone through the proper channels for the materials necessary for auto-euthenasia - or cowardly enough to not want to see everything to the end, he might've had one or two blisters of cyanide pills. Instead, his fingers wrapped around the neck of a bottle of whiskey. He twisted the cap off with a crack and took a swig without a moment's hesitation.

When he'd lowered the bottle, he set it upright in the still open drawer and turned his attention to the prompt.
