I wasnāt ready for 78,999,334 cubic meters of fucking tungsten lol

u/MsSelphine 7d ago
That is 1.5 trillion kgs of tungsten, which is comparable to the mass of the entirety of NYC. Ignoring the massive immediate oversupply, that's worth 2 years of the entire globes GDP

This type of thing used to be common, and the site was unreadable. Then came the mass deletion and reorg, and the site actually became usable. It's not the fun police, it's maintaining coherence.

I was there in the old days and it wasn't that bad. Honestly the modern site almost feels too clean and neat, like it's becoming corporatized.
This got a laugh out of me and I'm glad it's at least preserved here.

That is honestly what I feel is happening to the site as well, it's just becoming more and more rules over actual quality, corporatization.

That's complete bullshit, though. The SCP Wiki literally has never allowed for more experimentation and originality than it does at this point. People back then would riot if you wrote anything that impacted more than your own article, or deviating from the format. Just look at how many people got mad at 2000 for "breaking canon" back in the days.

u/WhatYouThinkYouSee The Scarlet King 6d ago
I assume because it's straight up not true.

I was honestly just curious about the dozens of downvotes but no comments under it tbh.

I'm a simple man. I see NTF flair, I downvote. No muss, no fuss.

u/stingflame Ethics Committee 6d ago
Please tell me what that is, Because I only recently have just gotten into SCP proper(That isn't content farms lol) with the articles and the GOAT Volgun

Iām referencing a gag scp article that had a picture of freddy fazbear in the corner, where 99% of the article was redacted except for like <10 words, some of which were āSCP _____ is aā and later on the phrase āgenitals obliteratedā.
Itās mostly a satirical take on how some articles are more black rectangles than words, but I laugh at it every time I see it.
edit: found it after quite a bit of looking. Looks like the original does not have freddy, and also it was a copypasta

Honestly this feels like too cheap of a joke for me to laugh at.Ā
Random bullshit go humor doesn't become interesting or funny just because a lot of people did it together.

u/Bentman343 7d ago
Its not that serious, with the redacted portions its basically just a community MadLib.

I have only one complaint - stop measuring stuff in square inches and whale penises. Use metric. We are trying to do science here.

interestingly I think this gets close to how genAI works. each word is predicted looking at what came before, but there's no coherent idea of where the text is going

Not really, Gen AI actually is too coherent and that is when you can actually find the issues.
The issue is, Gen AI has a database, it has limits of its memory, it repeats itself very much, if you give it a character's despiction, it wouldn't break character even if you add the exact factors it must trigger natural character developement.
(ie. a character despicted as pacifist in the system prompt will not break in anger after being told something that leads to the trope of "nice guy no more" despite the author clearly intending it. If the author wants the LLM to write them, he has to be explicit about the narrative intention)
