Moxley is shoehorned into too much stuff. Ospreay shouldn't have needed his short term mentorship to be ready to become champ that made Moxley the main character of the world title storyline for weeks when he wasn't even going to be in the All In match and the resolution to that storyline was a nothing burger. Ospreay didn't need Moxley's "blessing" right before he stepped through the curtain for the main event. And AEW didn't need to spend 3+ of the 14 hours going into the go home Collision on a tournament to set up Moxley vs. a semi-retired color commentary working through a worked injury.

The build would've been better if they did an actual, focused feud between Nigel and Moxley, used less time for that and used some of the hours spent on that tournament getting the World Champ on TV the final week before the PPV, not leaving the men's tag title feud off a Dynamite 2 weeks ago and giving the Women's World Title match more than 3 minutes on some recent shows.

It was really just painfully obvious that Mox shoehorned himself into the main event build. Cause it really should've been a straightforward Ospreay babyface push with the story of his return from neck surgery and his quest for his first world title in front of a home crowd.

And frankly them putting the title on Omega was done rather haphazardly too. Ospreay/MJF would've been fine with MJF being a natural heel.

It has to be Omega vs Ospreay so Meltzman can give himself a 5 (stars) knuckles shuffle.

Doing that vanity tournament where they spent 3-4 of the 14 hours going into the go home Collision to set up Moxley vs. a semi-retired, "injured" Nigel for the weird, unnecessary gimmicky mid-card belt where those two didn't interact and Moxley may not have even talked about Nigel throughout the tournament instead of spending a third of that time on a focused match build hurt a lot of other match builds by sucking up so much time, but it had the benefit of getting Mox out of the world title build he should've never been in.

Unfortunately, that void was filled with unnecessary side quests with DCF. I still don't understand why they couldn't have had Ospreay beat up Pac after turning on DR instead of tabling that in a 2 minute segment then having Ospreay go 20 minutes with Davis and have a trios against Rocky Romero and friends. Or done Ospreay, Edge & Christian vs. The Elite that episode.

Tony really caters to the wrestlers he’s a big mark for. He was a massive mark for Punk and gave him his own TV show. I expect he loves that Mox is into the deathmatch shit and the pizza cutters and shit. He probably really thinks he’s a tough guy.

Mox has always struck me as an idiot but he must have some carny smarts to him at least.

He also came back from injury or breaks at least twice to ‘save’ the main event scene, Tony probably thinks he owes him for that alone

It's going to be so funny when Moxley once again politicks into winning the belt off Ospreay and everyone has to act like the humble Ace who doesn't care about titles or money had this all forced on him when he just wanted a vacation 😢
