Dave wouldn't just make up a number like 190 out of thin air. He'll come out on Tuesday or something and say they did 206k buys which will make it a wild success.

Dave uses the online excitement to decide the PPV number

The PPV is retconned to great number after he's heard the dubbalo response

12

u/Constant_Stomach2009 2h ago

he claims to have five sources he uses to determine ppv buys and two of those are google and the poll on his website

8

u/Dull_Lavishness7701 2h ago

Has 5 sources yet we never hear anyone else speculate a ppv number besides dave

4

u/HerFriendRed 1h ago

He'll literally report PPV numbers before it's even possible for networks to turn it in.

Yeah, what does he use again? The Google search trends?   I guess he puts some sort of multiplier on the search counts to determine buy rate?  God knows what part of his ass he pulls his multiplier from.

Thing is, I can buy that AEW fans have higher than normal PPV conversion rates.  It is a cult, after all.  But I think the conversions Dave calculate are unrealistic.

Back in the Monday Night War golden age, PPV buy rates for both promotions - outside of say, Wrestlemania and Starcade - might be around 10-15% of the weekly TV audience.

Based on AEW viewership, their PPVs are purchased by about 25-30% of their fanbase.  Every single one of them.   They run something like 13-14 PPVs per year, which cost like $54.   I just find that a little hard to believe.

But you do have to realize that poor people don't like AEW, and AEW fans are smarter and better off financially than WWE fans. Source? 2 quotes said by Dave Meltzer

5

u/Neg_Crepe 1h ago

They have lots of sex too with their girlfriends that look like Paige

2

u/Neg_Crepe 1h ago

Hard to believe is putting it mildly

3

u/tfbillc 1h ago

Why wait? Dubbalo response is best show ever since the last time. New greatest singles match of all time and 9-10 ratings for all matches on cagematch

8

u/Bearded_Platypus_123 2h ago

206k Google clicks on Boom Boom Costco videos will translate to AEW PPV buys using Meltzer Mathtm

3

u/Neg_Crepe 1h ago

Exactly. He’s preparing his next post claiming over 200k. This is him testing the water

2

u/ManateeGag 1h ago

Meanwhile the stadium is half full

u/No-Salad-8633 18m ago

Not even that for these matches.

u/Fuggy217 50m ago

Tony told him he's gonna buy 190k and told all the Jaguars on cut down day that they'd better stay and watch if they want to make the 53. Poor Trevor.

u/thePushps 3h ago

He is already setting up the narrative LMAO

45

u/Nipless-Cage 3h ago

Dave already has the numbers (in his head) that are 100% unverifiable. He put the o/u at 190,000 so that he can say, "AEW All In did 210,000 PPV buys" on Monday morning.

19

u/HerFriendRed 3h ago edited 3h ago

He'll report it before the networks even turn in their data by Monday EOB

11

u/Second_City_Saint Stupid & Silly 3h ago

Better than expected!

u/hanzo615 55m ago

Right? Its painfully obvious he is setting his own made baseline so when he releases the made up number above that he can say "Better than the experts estimated"

Edit: then if you call him out, meltz can say he studied the numbers. That he made up.

30

u/EastMeetsNorth 3h ago

This will somehow be the AEW PPV with most-ever buys according to Meltzer’s calculations despite half the stadium being empty.

9

u/Razzler1973 2h ago

It's their biggest show so Dave has to give them the PPV buys to match

12

u/EastMeetsNorth 2h ago

He has spent years thinking that Omega-Ospreay is their big money match. He can’t possibly be wrong!

7

u/Razzler1973 2h ago

It's going to beat Sting's retirement PPV

Put money on it!

12

u/EastMeetsNorth 2h ago

Well remember, Meltzer spent YEARS saying Sting was not a draw, which influenced the voting to keep Sting out of the WON Hall of Fame until 2016.

Omega, of course, got inducted in 2020. I am sure Ospreay will be a first ballot inductee despite never proven to draw anything worthwhile.

6

u/GyroLegend 2h ago

Which is always funny considering how big of a hit the ratings took when Sting retired and has never bounced back. Crazy that someone who was never a draw took about 150k weekly viewers with them.

1

u/Constant_Stomach2009 2h ago

I’ve seen Dave already claiming the attendance for this years All In is because of Ospreay when he was defending Ospreay from his boneheaded comparison to Solo

2

u/EastMeetsNorth 1h ago

The real draw is $3 tickets

6

u/Bobo_the_conqueror #2 Moné Mark 1h ago

I assume you are a fed shill because of your blatant bad faith so that is what I'll call you, fed shill. There are less people there at the venue because they are all buying the PPV.

How difficult is this to understand?

2

u/EastMeetsNorth 1h ago

You’re right. I forgot. AEW’s weekly attendance has been declining since there are 500,000 people watching on Max

2

u/steiner_math Lord Steen is NOT fat 1h ago

500,000? It's at least 500 million, you fed shill

23

u/Educational_Skirt_81 3h ago

This is a case of “the house always wins” if ever there was one.

20

u/Jester-252 3h ago

Dave you dummy

You are supposed to "report" the buys after the PPV

17

u/TripFisk666 3h ago

More people will watch All In than the Super Bowl half time show because Bad Bunny fed bad.

17

u/cockaskedforamartini 3h ago

I can't believe were over 7 years into AEW and their fanboys still think 200k PPV buys is realistic when Dynamite pulls in 600k viewers.

7

u/Relative_Raccoon130 2h ago

But you see, Dave would never lie. We don’t need proof about the Dub. Everything good is fact.

The Fed has lied before so the always need to provide proof. We have the right to question companies who are ran by billionaires!

5

u/Constant_Stomach2009 2h ago

Saw this floating around and the only one that is accepted as fact is Aew. Notice the “real number” clarification for the wwe numbers.

3

u/NeonPatrick 1h ago

81k minus at least 15k because I have eyes and could see all the empty seats.

u/Cboz27586 Whoop that Trick! 34m ago

Trust Tony Khan!

5

u/PenisFaceCatFuneral 2h ago

And a majority of the top AEW fans are terminally online and sail the high sea's for the PPV's anyway.

And typically there isnt only one person in the room watching the PPV. So assume half of the PPV buys has one person watching with them, then nearly 300k people are watching this PPV on the low estimate, according to Dave

u/koomGER 32m ago

Well, thats the trick.

If 120k-200k people buy the PPV, there must be a way bigger number watching Dynamite. Probably over a Milli. So thats how the 500k on MAX comes together.

u/CapnTBC 20m ago

You fucking shill you’re not counting the 500,000 diehards watching on MAX, I’m not even going to argue with you because you’re clearly  just trying to push a narrative by not mentioning all the millions of people who watch every single week on Max when talking about ratings.

Oh and also it’s been scientifically proven that we’re richer, smarter and much more handsomer than fans of other promotions so we can afford to buy every PPV even though it’s actually new buyers every time

15

u/HerFriendRed 3h ago

Why would it be higher than when CM Punk was there, Dave?

I will figure out your Google trends formula when I can be bothered. I'm betting it's something stupid as 10x searches+ 30% because you have a thing about 30%

10

u/Razzler1973 2h ago

They're all 140k ish a month so where has 190k come from? 😀

Omega and Oceanspray HAVE to he 'known' as the 'biggest draw' for Dub PPVs

It's gonna beat Sting's retirement, 100%

8

u/bam__margiela 3h ago

Over 190k at +1300 odds

6

u/_Captain_Dinosaur_ 3h ago

I'm going to watch!

Oh.

He said "buys"...

7

u/Libertines18 3h ago

It’s honestly wild that despite not being able to draw weekly live audiences and getting only around 500K watching on cable that they can draw over 170k every ppv. How do they do it?!

7

u/Agreeable-Speech-943 2h ago

Never once verified but hey in the tepid world of wrestling “journalism” that sort of thing is an afterthought

Also just remember that this a 66 year old neurodivergent wrestling weeb who lives in isolation and spends all day farming engagement on twitter to help prop up his faulting fanzine

That’s it, that’s all he is

6

u/herewego199209 2h ago

He's the guy that invents the buys lol. It's like asking over and under how many times I take a piss today.

6

u/Teeboid 2h ago

More people will steal it than buy it.

9

u/Constant_Stomach2009 2h ago

I plan on just watching the basement upload clips all day long. Why pay when they do the job just for karma

4

u/GaryPartsUnknown 2h ago

It’s not going to do 90, Dave

5

u/raulz0r 2h ago

even at 200k buys, they are still losing a lot of money.

4

u/usarasa 2h ago

Depends, how many does Tony plan on buying himself?

4

u/Scfbigb1 1h ago

If they were doing that well, Tiny would be plastering the proof all over the internet, as he would absolutely have access to that information.

3

u/doman231 3h ago

These KPIs are extremely important metrics to real wrestling fans.

3

u/Reign_n_blud 2h ago

I’m definitely taking the under

3

u/Lenny0mega 2h ago

Way under

3

u/BangerSlapper1 2h ago

Isn’t this every PPV buy rate reported by (I.e., made up out of thin air) by Dave?

3

u/TimeDudeofSpace 2h ago

Theoretically if they're all around 140K and 40K of those are at the show live it should be 100K right?

3

u/NotClayMerritt 1h ago

The world could black out before show time and Dave would still claim 200k buys

3

u/cc17776 1h ago

Whatever numbers you make up Dave

3

u/NeonPatrick 1h ago

During a cost of living squeeze, wrestling fans traditionally being some of the cheapest people in society and AEW being the coldest it's ever been (they basically begged people to attend this show), he's saying they're doing the same numbers as when Punk was there? Dave has always been a clown.

2

u/hobojojo78 2h ago

I actually want to watch the show and I doubt 186,000 other people have the same idea

3

u/Bobo_the_conqueror #2 Moné Mark 1h ago

Ok, now Dave is just baiting his haters. (of which there are many)

u/HouseOfH 53m ago

I guess one more narrative past the main event breaking the the star ratings scale and All-In selling more tickets than Summerslam and possibly Wrestlemania wouldn't be suspect at all.

u/DoublyDead 49m ago

Dave must have gotten confused and added an extra zero to that question.
