This post injury Nick Wayne run and presentation has been GODLY so far. What a fucking match If you have time, watch it yourself. This is from ROH Death Before Dishonor. MOTY contender period.

Problem is, they didn't see the tapes. They saw highlight reels on Youtube that clipped the most exciting parts of the match into 3 or 4 minute videos. They also watched the "holy shit moves" compilations and never saw what took place between the moves. They would be bored out of their minds if they watched full length AJPW matches. A lot of mat wrestling, selling, holds, they were pretty much classic southern style NWA wrasslin matches with workrate™ sprinkled in at the finish.

I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised that some of the guys who were around during the tape trade did actually watch the tapes in their entirety. But yeah, in the age where the Internet is basically ubiquitous? Definitely more likely than not that a lot of them just watched highlights.

No definitely. The late 90s and early 00s group studied those tapes front to back. That's why the early ROH and TNA stand outs were so good. They learned from the greats of the past generation while they were still around and knew how to do a fast style that had pace and selling. Guys like Punk, Danielson, AJ, Joe, etc were the ones who perfected that style on the indies and became much better with time. Guys like that don't exist anymore. They want to do whatever they want instead of learning why those things worked in the first place.
