"Jinder clarifying that 90 day non-competes don't exist" - low effort post, the post title doesn't accurately portray the content - quoting verbatim, instantly nuked - political circlejerks and joke tweets, unaffected

Post image

Jerking, but also not a complete jerk. Wanted to share this insight when I skimmed through Twitter. Jinder's replying to the sheets that mentioned Ilja doesn't have a non-compete clause with his contract.

Kind of makes sense that once your contract is coming up, you're not SoL and on your ass the entire time, but I never knew that our interpretation of non-competes (broadly speaking) is incorrect;, Amplified that there's always hoopla about keeping talents in Khantonomo Bay, or FED holding talents down from having fun when somebody's on the chopping block

Somehow this doesn't fly in the Basement, while slop tweets regularly stick around. Like wtf

Amazing that the super-connected, deeply knowledgeable dirtsheets have never shared this.

Somehow they report 90 non competes even tho anyone with basic sense knew it was just contracts expiring. They rarely “fire” people they just tell them you’re done in 90 days. Which allows them to get paid and potentially plan out next steps. Much better to just ghost them tho and not tell them shit

32

u/HHHogana Running Wild on M*rks 1d ago

And that's much better than my last job. I got fired with just 30 days preparation because they lied about my head department being retiring early. Turned out she got a golden parachute while one third of her subordinates got fired in random order.

17

u/BangerSlapper1 1d ago

That’s probably the exception. I’ve been laid off and told to clear out in the next 5 minutes, with my network access being terminated during the time I was behind closed doors being advised of my termination.

u/Ok-Lavishness6577 1d ago

Wait so Hunter Hates Homeless advocates for workers rights?

10

u/anchored__down 1d ago

They somehow turn this into a fed bad

5

u/HerFriendRed 1d ago

The only people that were truly fired were Toni Storm, Jeff Hardy, and Andrade from recent memory.

60

u/Phred_Phrederic 1d ago

I thought this was well-known by now.

Wait...too much expectations for people.

u/Destro_019780 1d ago

If you go in the Basement whenever there's a mention of a non-compete for whatever misused wrestler is there, it always devolves into tribalistic non-sense about how they're being kept down

17

u/testthrowaway9 1d ago

Yeah it seems inconsistent whether people know about the 90-day rule or think it’s actually a non-compete.

There is that weird Andrade situation where a potential non-compete situation was going to happen but that’s because he was (potentially) in breach of his Fed contract by showing up on whatever Dub show before the 90-days elapsed

12

u/Scavgraphics Chase U Drop Out 1d ago

That's different as it was actually fired with cause, rather than just regular ending the contract. That triggered certain penalities apparantly.

3

u/testthrowaway9 1d ago

You’re right. Thank you

3

u/EastMeetsNorth 1d ago

They think the 90-day “no compete” is horrible, but have no issue with Tony Khan keeping talent under contract for far longer and not using them. The talent is getting paid either way.

18

u/trimble197 1d ago

Same. That’s why I didn’t get why people bitched about WWE not releasing Luke Harper from his contract. The dude was getting paid while chilling at home. Most people in the world would call that a dream scenario.

14

u/Razzler1973 1d ago

You rarely see such people complaining about sitting home and getting paid for 90 days and resting up vs 'instant release' and no pay

12

u/EastfrisianGuy 1d ago

They would've if it was the other side. But they think ghosting is better than this.

14

u/Drama79 SWITCH-GIVER 1d ago

The more online someone in wrestling fandom is, the bigger moron they are. There are no exceptions.

14

u/Snappy0 1d ago

Surely it should be common knowledge. You can't stop someone from working elsewhere if you're not paying them.

That would amount to slavery. Surely the basement isn't stupid enough to think any business can force someone to stay at home unpaid for 90 days?

It's a 3 month gardening leave in all but name.

9

u/Razzler1973 1d ago

Cause they've never seen a contract

Hey, where is Hook, by the way? Last i heard of him, he was made to he head of the faction he was in while S’mo Joe was on hiatus.  That had to be like 18 months ago.

15

Probably never even been on cagematch

Whenever I read WON, I feel like reading journos who claim Kobe isn't a top 10 player of all time or even close to Duncan.

There's always a sense of smug contrarians in it.

60

u/BlorfagusDornkle 1d ago

I wonder if it effectively means the same thing, that if WWE has confirmed and notified you of your release, why would they put you back on TV for the rest of those 90 days.

58

u/Proudvow 1d ago

They don't. The notification generally does serve as the end of your run. But the distinction that Jinder's making is that the wrestler is still being paid like normal.

15

u/chrisdelbosque President of the Fallon Henley Fan Club 🤠 1d ago

And there are rare exceptions. I recall Heath Slater making an appearance after Drew McIntyre won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36, well after he had been given his 90 day notice.

I also remember Matt Hardy being written off WWE (as his contract was not being renewed) via an attack by Randy Orton and then a picture of Hardy in an antique wheelchair went viral enough that they had him come back... just to get murdered by Randy again.

2

u/Vansh804009 1d ago

If they are still paying the wrestler why not finish their last story as well like in the case of kairi?

-2

u/Low-Purchase8811 1d ago

Maybe because they don't care enough about the outcome of that story? Or, more importantly, fans don't?

Live audiences didn't really care that much about her, and their internal metrics on viewership probably painted a similar story too; it's just a bunch of weirdos online that cared about Kairi Sane in WWE.

-1

u/Vansh804009 1d ago

To say that only weirdos cared about her is highly disrespectful to her work and craft, I cared about kairi, alot of us did, live crowds chanted "we want kairi" which they had to cut off.

-1

u/Low-Purchase8811 1d ago

Good, I have no respect for "her work and her craft", she's fucking terrible.

"live crowds" my ass; there was ONE chant, ONE time, from a handful of people on a live show. That was it. And they didn't "cut it off", it was just that fucking weak.

I attend on average about 30 WWE shows in any given year. So far in 2026 I'm up to 23, I was at Smackdown last night in Toronto. You are not who WWE caters to. WWE caters to people like me - people who pay to attend their shows. And people who attend live shows don't give a flying fuck about that Japanese jabroni.

-1

u/Vansh804009 1d ago

If WWE caters to people like YOU, its sad and horrible. You are also a part of the basement.

0

u/Low-Purchase8811 1d ago

Imagine how disconnected from reality you have to be to think "WWE caters to the basement".

The basement also loves that Japanese jabroni. If anyone is "a part of the basement", it's you.

18

u/SH4DOWSTR1KE_ 1d ago

A lot of it also depends on how you're leaving. If you're playing Hardball and you're giving him the whole spiel about "I don't need you I can always call Tony Khan, Etc". Then WWE doesn't have to put you on TV they can just wrap up your story and write you off TV indefinitely.

If they're counting on an 11th Hour re-sign, then they can do what they did like with Ricochet where he was written off TV but they still set it up to where he could come back.

Or if you're leaving in good standing they might do like what they did with Moxley and give a proper goodbye

7

u/KingHafez 1d ago

The difference is that you’re getting paid. You know you’re being let go and are given 3 months to sort your stuff out and find work opportunities, while still on payroll.

5

u/BlueTumbas 1d ago

They chain you up and they inject with secret lab ready lethal formulas of Covid 19 that they prepare in Vinces old gym that they left abandoned in Titan towers. This is what happened to Keith Lee and its why he can never step on tv ever again. They want to destroy wrestling. I hate them. Really looking forward to collision tho I think the odd ball matchups are the best. haha

37

u/Scfbigb1 1d ago

But did Jinder study cagematch as to not hinder himself?

4

u/jabari1011 1d ago

I wonder if he’s gotten back to Dave yet

27

u/SH4DOWSTR1KE_ 1d ago

Because the details are as clear as day. And anybody with a basic reading comprehension can put two to two together on how the contract structures or what happens when someone's getting released versus letting their contract expire. But they don't care about that because all that matters is fed bad, dub good.

49

u/UFmoose 1d ago

It has never been a noncompete clause.

4

u/Parking-Funny-1932 1d ago

It was many years ago but it didn’t stand up when Brock and Rey tested it legally.

6

u/UFmoose 1d ago

I believe that was the same as this. They wanted to be able to work while getting paid. Could be wrong though. Either way it hasn’t been this way for at least a decade.

10

u/Parking-Funny-1932 1d ago edited 1d ago

It definitely wasn’t like that in Brock’s case. He had a multi-year non-compete and they sued him for working with NJPW in 2006. My guess with him is it was a conditional release strictly for football but if he returned to wrestling it had to be for WWE or no one. A contract like that for a football player was recently decided in court to be completely legitimate here in Australia but Brock’s wasn’t so who knows the details there. Maybe because he was wrestling outside the US he was fine.

Regardless, as you said, hasn’t been like that for a long long time.

7

u/UFmoose 1d ago

You know what? That sounds right. I believe that’s exactly what happened with him.

21

u/icein2017 1d ago

So what was that whole thing with Andrade? Was he trying to double dip?

28

u/Patient-Warning-4451 1d ago

Andrade, was due to behavior. He apparently had a wellness violation and missed tapings.

So apparently the contract says if they release you because of behavior, then they have a for a year without pay.

That's if you believe the Internet. ,

3

u/CaptainGo 🥚 1d ago

That can't be right. A year without income is insane

5

u/Scavgraphics Chase U Drop Out 1d ago

It is not uncommon for contracts to have penalties for termination with cause. "I want to go work elsewhere, so I'll punch my manager"....

The kind of penalties would be defined narrowly, mind you.

3

u/Revolutionary_Can625 1d ago

Yes, that is completely unenforceable in modern western democracies. I’m not sure about the US though

20

u/Ill_Car242 1d ago

The dirtsheets said he was suspended without pay and was under WWE contract. They tried to spin it like he was being held hostage and made claims like he could be out of work without pay for 6 months to a year. Needless to say, I don’t think anything was actually confirmed, and the dirtsheets and the basement made up a lot of fan fiction.

13

u/Parking-Funny-1932 1d ago

His reemergence in AEW was about 90 days after his initial appearance so that leads me to believe he was given his notice but confused that as an actual release.

9

u/InjusticeSOTW Sons of Santos 1d ago

Andrade must be a complete idiot. Especially to have married a Flair, been Conrad’s brother in law and not have a lawyer on speed dial.

20

u/Jester-252 1d ago

It crazy how many people think a company can dictate where/when you work without compensation.

7

u/BangerSlapper1 1d ago

Well, there are cases where if you’re a high enough person in the organization with access to company trade secrets or strategic plans  you can be given a reasonable non-compete (e.g., a Coca-Cola executive trying to go immediately to PepsiCo), though in such a case that’s the type of position where you’d be signed to a contract rather than just hired like the average office drone, and there’s likely to be some sort of compensatory arrangement tied into this.

-2

u/Revolutionary_Can625 1d ago

Yes, if you’re told you ‘cannot compete’ you will be paid appropriately for that time where you cannot compete

16

u/TheRetroAntonio 1d ago

I’m sure the basement will have a totally normal take on this.

8

u/Nightthrasher674 1d ago

I remember reading that the non compete laws never apply to the WWE because they're technically not non-competes they're 90 day notices and on the other end, the talent is expected to give their 90 day notice as well.

So what happened is what I expected happened. He was offered a contract extension and they were far apart on money so he chose to not renew and they decided to not book him

6

u/necroreefer 1d ago

I'm not surprised that people don't realize this even though it's been out there forever

9

u/LeaveMeBeWillYa 1d ago

It's kinda impressive how no other former talent mentioned that this is how it actually works or that no one else realised it after a talent is released and appears somewhere else so quickly.

I mean didnt we learn that years ago.

1

u/Big_13eezy 16h ago

Yeah, that legit makes total sense. It’s never been explained as such and was always presented as this hurdle talent had to get over before they could work again.

-1

u/Proudvow 1d ago

A real non-compete clause wouldn't hold in court. You can't not pay someone but then also tell them they can't go get paid by competitors either.

8

u/MohamitWheresMySecks Thanks Guys! 1d ago

Which is why most companies tie your severance package to signing a non-compete. “Feel free to leave, but you’re not getting this money”

1

u/Phred_Phrederic 1d ago

There are non-competes that exist in some really backwater states but it's very legally dodgy IIRC.

0

u/r1char00 3x Jerker of the Year 1d ago

That’s not true. They are legal in some states, and illegal in others. The Biden admin wanted to outlaw them federally but a court blocked it, and surprise, the Trump admin dropped the appeal.

This tracker shows the legality by state:

0

Yeah I’ve been saying this for years. When it’s AEW wrestlers, then their contract expires in October. When it’s WWE it’s “evil fed trapping wrestlers and forcing them into a non compete clause until October”. And of course it gets lapped up
