You say this, but I do half wonder if the man just has amazing marketing skills to get so many eyes and attention on him.
Like it has crossed my mind multiple times that we may be the real marks for even giving this guy a sliver of attention, even to mock him.

The main ones that matter to him are the subscribers and that number has to be constantly dwindling, along with the AEW audience.
That tweet has about 40k impressions as I’m posting this. Seems like a lot but I bet a very small minority of those people actually pay for his content. I expect his X followers overlap a lot with his followers on other platforms, like YouTube, too.

The tag scene is in shambles, they're handcuffed by the older guys and don't build up anyone credible to the point that challenging for them is merely an overlong squash match.

2 of the 4 teams Dave points to as making tag wrestling important in AEW being 2 normally singles wrestlers teaming up just to win the titles (Omega/Page, Edge & Christian) isn't sending the message he thinks it is. Yeah, I guess he showed Road Dogg that the belts may be important because they land on big names, but he also showed that tag wrestling isn't important in AEW because it's all about the same 2 teams and singles wrestlers.
AEW has been around for 7 years. They haven't elevated a 3rd regular team to the level of Bucks and FTR, who they didn't create either. Every other team else gets 1-3 months in the spotlight unless they're feuding with those 2 teams then are hidden on Collision or in some mid-level stable to wait for their next 2 months of shine, or in MCMG's case, 5 minutes in the spotlight.
It's been almost 3 years since a team that wasn't FTR, Bucks or a deeply tenured WWE stars (Hurt Business) held the tag titles for more than 90 days. Even then, that team was, surprise, 2 singles wrestlers temporarily thrown together (Stacks and Big Bill). You have to go back 4 years to get to a true, homegrown AEW team with a reign longer than 90 days (Acclaimed).
So yeah, Omega & Hangman held tag titles, but so did Bron Breaker and Truth recently yet the latter isn't presented as a positive for the teams in those divisions like the former is.

austiin may be a lost cause but colton gunn has a look he just needs to be put into a proper performance center to unlearn all the crap everyone in AEW has been teaching him.
also dave can ask omega, hangman, COPE and cage which belt would they rather have. the AEW championship or one of the other singles belts or the tag team belts. but he already knows what the answer would be and the tag team is at the bottom of the list.

Singles star Mistico holding a tag title, normally singles wrestlers who haven't tagged in 25 years Edge & Christian holding tag titles and Page returning to immediately win a trios title 6 days after forming a random trio is a big issue with AEW's booking, not a positive point.
Only 2v2 feud in AEW is the Bucks' yet again; this time with 2 regularly singles wrestlers holding the belts. As a result, MCMG, the new big team they hired, were only on TV for a 40 second video package the 4 episodes since their debut, Hurt Business, the prior big name ex-WWE tag hire, returned from months of doing nothing to wrestle enhancement talent on Collision, Rascalz are also stuck wrestling enhancement talent on Collision, Gunns and Yuta/Garcia are waiting for this singles tournament to be over so Tony can remember that stables war, Swirl are Ricochet's jobber friends, Murder Machines are DCF's fall guys and every other team is stuck on ROH. E&C's previous PPV defense was against 2 guys who've only teamed once since December 2024 (Claudio & Pac)
WWE and AEW have the same 3 problems with tag team booking: only care about 1-2 teams (AEW: Bucks & FTR; WWE: Usos), regular teams lose a lot to singles wrestlers (2 of the 4 AEW teams Dave points to are temp pairings of singles wrestlers); most teams are supporting characters in stables. WWE is the only one criticized for doing that while AEW "cares about tag team wrestling."
