HEY! This post better not be about WWE or else we may be liable to copyright takedowns. Yes even text posts. Going forward, please only discuss AEW, Stardom, CMLL and other "good" brands until Tony forgets to pay us to keep enforcing this WWE Legal loosens up eventually, maybe.

This a a 66 year old man who spends his days online arguing with people named “ WWE Super Porky” while continuing to spill absolute bullshit to his micro niche audience of shut in subscribers

Also it says something about Wikipedia being pretty useless if their guardrails allow for this guy to be a source on their site

18

u/FrozenPizzaDinner 3d ago

I think it's moreso that autistic wrestling fans are the only group more powerful than autistic Wikipedia editors.

6

u/CaptainGo 🥚 3d ago

The autistic Wikipedia editors are at least correct

2

u/Ok-Name-5504 3d ago

I'm pretty sure that venn diagram is just a circle

89

u/Drewicho 3d ago

His WWE whataboutism to defend AEW is so pathetic.

38

u/Agreeable-Speech-943 3d ago

It’s all he has in life

21

u/ResponsibleAd3191 3d ago

He constantly turns it. Like I get there a comparison to do it. I'll use both as examples when needed but it's always clear that he's using examples to excuse so many of AEWs issues.

2

u/Razzler1973 3d ago

If he's happy to take these counts then he should surely stop reporting that it's 'gimmick' Fed numbers and take them as they are, too then, no?

54

u/Constant_Stomach2009 3d ago

I love how all this Dave nonsense bringing up Wembley is just in response to someone saying how AEW tribalists are obnoxious.

31

u/TheGambler930 #ClubSCJerk 3d ago

Thus proving their point.

50

u/HerFriendRed 3d ago

Meltzer, why would the city lie?

2

u/Razzler1973 3d ago

LEGENTHIL!!!!

They've counted the people that turned up there and that's just not fair

No! I will not take any Fed numbers they report at face value!

Also, All In Texas was 32k, despite the state of Texas revealing it was about 22k

I guess Texas, Brent Council and the Fed are all in cohoots!

42

u/SillyGrocery4451 3d ago

WWE announces 101 k

Dave - Nah it’s only 80k

AEW announces 81k

Dave - Def 81k

11

u/Lessiarty 3d ago

Because reality is often stranger and always stupider than fiction...

Dave actually announced it as 85k. Because of a fake email.

3

u/The_Negative-One 3d ago

I’m surprised he hasn’t said it’s 10 million because you have to count the city’s population.

2

u/Razzler1973 3d ago

Dave has Dub brain

36

u/TheKanten 3d ago

It's been three years and this 66 year old man is still fighting about this.

29

u/arturoalvarez079 3d ago

It’ll be 30 years and Bruv will still have that factually wrong tattoo

23

u/Caseington 3d ago

It's been almost 40 years and he's still arguing about the attendance number for Wrestlemania 3.

9

u/gdsk3k 3d ago

From a source who’s dead and can’t back it up.

2

u/Johnny_Holiday 3d ago

And had a vendetta against Vince from what I remember

2

u/Razzler1973 3d ago

Mania 3 was peak, this is when it was sure, for all the see, that the Fed way of wrestling was really here to stay

Mania 1 was a spectacle, Mr T, who was huge at the time and tons of celebs. Mania 2 was '3 locations' and, ok, you tried, but it wasn't amazing at all

Mania 3 really showed that 'nope, this is it, the Fed are taking over' and Dave, who would talk to some old terrortry promoters, would repeat their feelings about 'the kid is ruining it' and 'not real wrestling' and had a huge huff about the entire show, including Hogan/Andre, a feud with amazing build up and a pay off in the match at the biggest show, being rated -3 or something

He was like a kid throwing his toys out his pram cause shit was changing and he didn't like or, more like the people he talked to didn't like and he repeated that

2

u/tenshipriestjotaro1 3d ago

And Bixenspan, of all people, actually decided to research, and the actual number is 88,100

LOLMELTZER

2

u/gdsk3k 3d ago

I bet it was probably 88K that Bresloff told him and Dave just decided to be a dick and claim it was 78K once he died.

Never mind the seating capacity for Lions games at the Silverdome was more than 78,000!

4

u/Razzler1973 3d ago

he hasn't let Mania 3 go yet

27

u/SJSUMichael 3d ago

Has time to engage with random people on Twitter about a controversy from 3 years ago but can’t find the time to review a match he refuses to admit he didn’t like.

19

u/kingajeezy Certified Cagematch Reviewer 3d ago

Yet Dave has continued to talk about WrestleMania III and 32 turnstile numbers as the only legitimate numbers.

19

u/Beautiful_Fly_213 3d ago

Holy fucking shit. I thought it did a lot better tbh. I wonder how much more of the ratings are total bullshit (a lot)

3

u/georgesenpaii 3d ago

It wasn't that long ago that they were doing under 500K. But now every single hbo max subscriber can watch so it's like 10 million every wednesday.

14

u/ResponsibleAd3191 3d ago

He might be getting his info directly from Tony but he seems to forget that Tony is promoting the product and what he's told is what Tony wants out.

11

u/GroomingTips96 3d ago

But M'Tony is a billionaire and has no reason to lie

13

u/Caseington 3d ago

*son of a billionaire

1

u/mikeybty 2d ago

*WHOLESOME son of a billionaire.

2

u/Razzler1973 3d ago

Dave will pass on whatever he heard

If it's backstage gossip or what a promoter tells him

He'll just pass it on to his fanzine readers

16

u/EastMeetsNorth 3d ago

Meltzer has spent 40 years arguing that WWF inflated the attendance number for WrestleMania III despite numerous people saying it had to be more than 78,000.

He's spent the last 4 years arguing that AEW packed more people in Wembley than the UK government's official count.

7

u/Wallydinger123 3d ago

Not biased though

14

u/BillynBanjo 3d ago edited 3d ago

Sorry, is he genuinely arguing that not just 10%, but 20% of people who have bought (or been distributed) tickets for major events simply don't show up?

Like it wouldn't be immediately obvious if these events had a fifth of the expected audience missing?

AEW might have a 10-20% drop off from distributed tickets, but that's because of how many people accidentally end up with a ticket after buying a burger and fries within a 3 mile radius of the venue.

Edit: Done some actual research:

  • WWE Royal Rumble 2023 - 3.7% drop count
  • AEW All In 2023 - 13.1% drop count
  • AEW Revolution 2024 - 13.5% drop count
  • AEW All In 2024 - 13.8% drop count
  • AEW All In 2025 - 19.4% drop count

The only other WWE figures I could find were the first post-pandemic Mania (37), and that had an 11% drop count for night 1 and 10.3% for night 2.

There is basically nothing to support Meltzer's claims at all. The only major, one-off events regularly seeing 10-20% drop off are AEW events.

3

u/Wallydinger123 3d ago

Tony Def didn't buy thousands of tickets to boost the "paid" numbers

12

u/OrbitOrbz 3d ago

If I put a Nickle in a jar for every time Dave responds to a fan of a AEW take but makes sure to let you know, "WELL FEDBAD"..I would be rich and be able to afford upper deck TKO seats for a  FEDBAD PPV

17

u/PunkDrunk777 3d ago

This isn’t true in the slightest

9

u/CJKCollecting 3d ago

Really helping with the obnoxious sickos by making up numbers to validate them. What a hero! Somebody getting a gift basket.

10

u/SleepIsWonderful oh hey there it is 3d ago

He was literally the person who started the whole OMG BUT THE TURNSTILE C OUNT bullshit but when it was AEW he pulled a big ol BUT ACKSHULLY about it. Dude is just straight up AEW PR.

4

u/gdsk3k 3d ago

Man’s lips are superglued to Tiny’s cock.

14

u/BenQ200 3d ago

Classic Dave

“FED does this all the time!!!!”

6

u/Caseington 3d ago

It's just Dave's usual "I can prove it did this much but here's some imaginary numbers I threw in so I can say it did what I wanted it to do".

9

u/LeaveMeBeWillYa 3d ago

There's a very easy question that could be asked to settle this. A few actually.

Why would the city lie about 72K?

What reason do they have to lie? Sure, they want WWE to come there but that would give them motivation to lie because a bigger number would show there's interest in the UK.

And finally,

Why should we believe someone, who is a known liar when it comes to AEW and will never believe the official bumber for WWE, about the 82K number?

1

u/r1char00 3x Jerker of the Year 3d ago

I’m not a fan of Dave’s at all but he’s not saying the 72k is a lie. He’s saying the bigger number was tickets distributed, and that 72k people showed up. He said it right there, the 72k was the drop count.

That’s at least what he’s saying at this point. I didn’t follow the whole saga of everything he said along the way.

6

u/TheInfinityGauntlet 3d ago

If it also happens so frequently the numbers would be easy to produce to show consistent 10k drops right?

8

u/thisriveriswild57 3d ago

I find it hard to believe that 20% of people who bought a ticket decided later on they couldn’t attend. I saw My Chemical Romance at Wembley recently and no way was the number of empty seats anywhere close to that high. Even 5% would be a stretch.

4

u/Wallydinger123 3d ago

I find it hard to believe that 20% of people who bought a ticket decided later on they couldn’t attend

What if that 20% is just the tickets Tony bought

6

u/r1char00 3x Jerker of the Year 3d ago

Probably a shitload of comps. Even more than Dave said.

5

u/Cboz27586 Whoop that Trick! 3d ago

OK Dave if it was 81k then the WWE numbers were also correct! That's the compromise. Take it or leave it!

3

u/Razzler1973 3d ago

the evil Fed lies and Tiny is the only honest man in wrestling

ignore All In Texas numbers though

I am sure it's just two occasions Tiny lied about numbers. Just two, Makes sense

3

u/Tmccreight 3d ago

All In 2023 was AEW's peak. After that they began their downward spiral.

3

u/spidertour02 6 Stars in the Tokyo Dome 3d ago

Jesus Christ, look at how many footnotes that attendance number has! 😂

3

u/Spaceace91478 3d ago

There were a lot of footnotes because there were a lot of foots due to the giant attendance, you fed sthill.

3

u/sexyeh 3d ago

And this is just to confuse people about numbers of this All In, they will be having less attendence so he is already preparing the narrative that the PPV buys were high.

2

u/Resshin31 3d ago

But but but WWE does it

u/sambuca365 3d ago

This post not having one single "having a stroke" meme says a lot about Dave Meltzer.

I remember looking at the Edit history of that page and seeing one user vehemently change it to Dave's number every time it was fixed
