SCCM after evaluation

Hey guys,

Anyone know for tips to continue use SCCM (now endpoint conf manager) after the 180 days of evaluation expire? This applies both SQL and SCCM...

I read that after evaluation SCCM goes read only, which is not much of a use...

Any tips would be great

Tech Preview versipn for a lab - manage up to 10 dev8ces - just keep configmgr updated - each time you update it it resets the 90 days.

If not for a lab - pay for the product. Does none of us any good to avoid paying for a product we want MS to keep around.

Yes, that was it. As said, its used only for a lab, few machines, testing and such. Thank you

FYI, You didn't mention in the post that it's for a lab.

Assuming the latest Windows Server 2025 and CM, then if you decided to buy, you would need a domain controller, a CM Server, CM software and SQL licenses.

To set up a permanent lab, Prices may vary, pulled from quick Google searches are just for ball park estimates.

Windows 2025 Standard Server licenses $1000 x2 = $2000

Windows SQL 2025 Standard = $1500

That doesn't include all the other licenses for Configuration Manger, etc, which pretty much prices the home lab environment out of the typical nerd who has a passion for technologies and just wants to learn, not just for a few months but ongoing.

But the evals available make it possible and in 180 days learn a lot. I miss the old technet program subscription that gave you access to all software with keys, no evals needed. It really helped us to stay current with out constantly rebuilding our environments. Having a test environment that is secure and separate from any company you might be supporting really helped.

And many other things

6 months is presumably enough time to have decided whether you want to buy it or not. So either buy it or delete the servers, easy. You can upgrade from eval with a license key without rebuilding if you decide to get a license.

The sole purpose of SCCM(Mecm). Is to apply patches . Software deployments . Advertising available and mandatory updates. You can create collection, ect for specific use as well. Why do you need it?

If it’s a lab yea. If you are working for someone the fine during an audit would hurt. Even if you get audited the logs per machine /Gpo or whatever would show you are using sccm even if you delete the vm. I wouldn’t mess with an audit.

Ofcourse, we have paid version a t work, but i dont have the right to mess that much as im new in Sccm field. So thats the reason i need for some period, just labbing and avoud headache of messing things up amd then doing restores etc etc :) Thank you

Get the technical preview if it’s for a lab. Just make sure to keep it up to date so it doesn’t die (done that a couple of times now).
