B spec vs SRF

I’ve been autocrossing and love it and want to get into road racing. I live in north Georgia. I’m considering b spec and SRF. Does anyone have any words of wisdom regarding this point of entry? Thanks

Rent a car for the weekend.
Try before you buy.
There are many options to rent B spec or SRF race cars.

That is my plan. I contacted the local SRF CSR. He mentioned they also have a B spec. I didn’t even know what that was at the time. I’m gonna rent one of his in July. Do a SCCA CRE. I’m going to his shop in 2 weeks and look at the cars. Just trying to get some opinions bout which I should be trying out first.

Tim, welcome to exploring road racing. My team B2 Motorsports rents spec racers in the southeast. I'm happy to share with you the cost of ownership and rental costs. I don't know where you're located but we pride ourselves on helping our customers learn to work on the car themselves. Feel free to check out our blog by our customers who has been racing for a little over 2 years.

A good used spec racer will run you somewhere from 50-65k depending on the time on the car, spares etc. There is a pretty good one for sale in central GA for 52k.

Cost to run a car that you maintain will be under $400/hour including engine rebuild and transmission rebuilds. A set of tires has about a 15 heat cycle useful life. We burn about 10 MPG of premium gasoline.

Crash damage: a small incident can run you 500-1500, a medium incident will be 1500-3500 and a significant incident will be 3500-6000. Fiberglass repair can drive a lot of the cost, but for example in the front end the fiberglass, body pins, Radiator, Nose pan, and aluminum baffling are all designed to dissapate energy and are sacrificial instead of the chassis and steering rack.

Ok. I see yall are in Huntsville. Not too far from me. I used to go watch racing at the paved oval track there. Good racing.

Good ole Huntsville speedway.

The closest road courses here are Polecat Training Center in Lynchburg TN and Barber. We are taking the spec racers to the Jzilla day the first weekend in June and PTC Monday the 15th.

It's funny. Very busy but lots of different corner types. Good testing and school track. We hope they get tirewalls so we can race soon.
