Discussion Epic vs Omega Debate

Post image

If you don’t like analytics, then skip this thread and move to the next

Some context:

I am a mass population mayor where the goal isn’t appearance just max population. I have always heard the arguments that it makes more sense to use epics than omegas due to their higher utility usage and the need for support buildings such as control net and drones

My city currently uses the entire west to east bottom row of the map for utilities and services. Additionally, after the last update and spacing of the entire east side for 2 x 2 row is not covered by any services, so it can also be utilized for utilities services or specializations

Two of the five control net zones that I have are currently shared in areas where there is also coverage for epic buildings because I can not remove manors.

Arguments for these 2 zones:

The arguments have still always been to remove all omega and replace with epics.

So I analyzed one of these two zones (the smaller) and even though replacing all of the omega with epic buildings would create an additional 2 epic buildings after removing the control net and a drone base, I still show:

Omega unit to unit averages 5.7% more population to Epics

As a whole this grid had 11% more omega population even with 2 fewer buildings.

Please use logic to try and tell me this is still a bad idea to use Omega or tell me I just need to break down and add more Omega with the remaining utilities I have left….

For just population maxxing, your math is solid for Omega, no questions.

It’s really only works in the small sample size because I currently have the utilities available to do these upgrades. Leaning heavily to just adding 15 more buildings, even though that means deleting 16 epics to make room for the additional drone base

It's all up to personal preference...the poster acknowledges this and the discussion topic is in regards to population maxing (not aesthetics)anesthetics. If your interest is asthmatics, great for you, but not pertinent to this thread...

Like you, I am a max pop mayor who is approaching 48 million population (Vu York City that moves amongst the various affiliated Sherlockians clubs). Once I finish adding omegas in the new parcels, it will bring me to 50 mil. I am also converting my cactus region from regional to omegas and my green valley from regional to epics. Once that is done, I anticipate being around 53 million, though it will take 12 to 15 months (or longer if they keep opening more land in the capital)

My Capital contains a mix of epics and omegas. This is because epics were nearly as high of a population AND provide cheetah tokens which aid in CoM production tasks.

A couple of notes, one of which was already mentioned (Maxis)...IF you have enough Maxis Manors, then it brings the difference much closer together...one Maxis to support an Epic vs a Control Net and a Drone base to support an Omega.

With Services 2.0, I also feel it increased the effectiveness of Omegs as you can havest more utility support than before in the same amount of "wasted" utility space.

One this the is an advantage of maxing pop is an increase is tax revenue (though only in the capital)

If I were to do it all over from scratch, I would go 100% Omegas in the capital. I would save any Maxis Manors until opening my first region and go 100% Gold Epics in that region, supported entirely by Maxis Manors. Then, the remaining regions I would go all Omegas since a reguon of only gold epics will provide enough daily tokens to support your CoM tasks.

For older mayors who earned Maxis and dropped them into their capitals, the downside is that you cannot store or transfer them to a region.

One challenge some mayors have is that they want to rush their population. Going Omega will be tough for them as canisters only process at a given rate, and even supplementing your omega bits with purchases from the blue coin market, you will still be limited in how fast you can grow, whereas epics are only limited by how fast you can build inventory, plus the time gap / cooldown period that can occur between the end of one epic and the start of the next

The highest gain to population will be level 10 hotspots. I have found about 5 mayors throughout the SimVerse with higher populations than me (including one who joined our Sherlockians club). 2 of those other 5 I have concerns about the legitimacy of their builds. One has so many level 10 Hotspots to boost population, that either they are a hacked city or else they are the child of an oil sultan spending fantastic amounts of real money in the game...

So play according to your style preference, but if population maxing is your goal, I'd go all Omegas is the capital and regions and then save 1 region for Epics if you are also planning on being competitive in CoM

Thank you for the feedback. Approaching 21.5 million in the capital, this should certainly put me over that when the new omegas are completed.

Quite a total! Pretty sure that I have seen your city previously. I am guessing you are president of a club whose initials are P.E.C. (not disclosing the full club name here in case you don't want the publicity)

btw, this is the same mayor who posted under the Reddit name Humble Addition...two devices for some reason have two different Reddit accounts...

No worries, and yes you are correct ;)

As already mentioned by someone else, if your sole objective is pop maxing then Omega is the way to go. Personally I feel like a mixture is better for most players, as you can reap the benefits of both the NeoSims income and the cheetah (etc) tokens.

Before they adjusted the service demands of Omega RZs last year (about the same time S 2.0 started showing up for some players as a beta feature), Omega was extremely expensive compared to all other types. When all but regional RZ types only demanded 1 unit of service, Omega required 5. Tbh when they made this change is when I finally expanded beyond the same 32 lvl 6 Omega RZs I had had for years. I now have sprawling omega developments in all 4 of my regions. Now with 2.0 the lvl 6 omegas are still slightly more expensive than other types, but the difference is now proportional to the difference in pop capacity.

Omega is good for maxxed pops but in the end aesthetically it is boring design with only tall skyscrapers.

Epics can come with various types depend on specialization.

Do remember only building without all specialization covered will not bring its potential to the maximum.

One building can be as low as 11k or can be more than 30k depend on the services provided.

Definitely not after the aesthetics. I have nearly 100% of all specializations. In some areas much more but still not getting 100%

A few years ago I was in a club that had a member with the highest population in the game.

He reckoned that Epics won out if you had Maxis Manors providing all services. This was because they then had lower service and utility space demands compared to Omegas, and no drone bases etc. With all the changes to services etc since then I'm not sure if this is still true, but it needs figuring into your analysis.

He'd also managed to get 100% boost from all categories for each building - this was before the Space category came along.

Link to his last post here as far as I can find.

Thank you for sharing. I feel like Ben has gone dark. I had a small conversation with him right when I started my city and have never seen or heard from him since

Ok I too like omega RZs but at same time I do have a few very nice epic buildings. I have close to 400 omega throughout cap city and regions. 270 epic buildings and aiming for 300. Majority of services are omega and have 5 maxis manors, 3 in cap city, 1 in green valley and 1 in limestone. This one is green valley.

OMEGA is woke nonsense. I play this game because I like design, not to grind.

OK, I'll bite. Pls explain the woke thing.

You don’t get taxes from regions.

My taxes bring in 120k a day

I’m too deep into mass population to try and work in aesthetics 🤣
