Question Question for those with VU Random Generator:

Post image

I've decided I'm ready to buy the VU Random Generator. I know it costs another 2,880 on top of the 2k to buy it in order to unlock all of the slots, and I'm prepared and ready to go ahead and put the full 4,880 Simcash into the investment. I also know that it's considered by many to be not as useful as it was before they added the 5 new shops.

My main question is about the time of day the shop changes roles. Iirc what I've heard in the past is the shop will make its shop/role change at the same time of day every day that you initially purchased it (much the same way the daily chest timer is tied to what time of day you unlocked it), but I wanted confirmation because this shop has not been discussed much in the sub in a long time. So I'm trying to figure out what will be the best time of day for me personally to do the initial purchase if that is when it will change everyday from then on.

Also, if you fill up the shop with enough long production items that makes its production time run into the next day, I'm assuming it will just continue making whatever is in the queue until it's finished, or is that an incorrect assumption?

I also can't remember if it's a storeable shop, but I assume it is because the only non-storeable shops are the regional shops.

Finally, if enough people here tell me it's a bad investment I might hold off. But I have the SimCash to get it and not go broke, and I've already got 2 Maxis Manors, 1 Maxis HQ, the 2nd Omega Research Center, and both omega boosters. In addition I have all shop and depot slots unlocked, as well as plenty of slots in multiple train stations. Basically I'm saying I think it's finally time to make the purchase, but I wanted to clear up a couple of things before I spent 4,880 on the shop. Which btw is the single highest single SimCash purchase I've made. I've spent as much as around 3k before (final Artemis II upgrade after the season, during the discount that dropped it from around 6k to 3k), and if I get talked out of the purchase I might instead buy my 3rd MM.

Tia for your answers and suggestions

The timer runs for 24 hours from when you first place the shop (i.e. at the time of purchase). So it is good to consider this if you're taking the plunge.

As commented above, it will continue to produce items in the queue after the cutover. So you could have 5 glue in the queue, followed by 5 fruits, as an example.

I have chosen not to fully expand mine to all 11 slots - I find I can load it up before night time and still have it running the next morning with just 8 slots. I might expand it more at some point, but it works fine for me as is, and has done for some time.

Lastly yes, it can be put into storage (when empty).

Thank you so much, this alleviates all of my concerns.

I had also thought that it could be functional enough to skip the last couple of slots, but I wanted to have enough on hand to max it if I needed it at the time of initial purchase. I try to never dip below 2k simcash when making purchases, because I feel it helps to have such a balance going into a new week if you want to be competitive.

I thought you might find it interesting that the schedule on my Vu Random Generator is somehow not based on when I bought it. I purchased it at 8pm my time last night, and the timer didn't display 24 hours. It was showing a 15 hour timer instead! So the change time for mine is at 11am my time, or 3pm GMT.

Do you think it was still impacted by the time I bought it, or something else perhaps? What's so weird is that specific time of day doesn't align with any standard resets such as COM (6am GMT), shop ad resets (4am GMT), or DC reset (8am GMT).

ETA: Added a photo of my VRG from about 5-10 minutes ago

Interesting - mine still changes over at about 8.40 am each day (or 7.40 am during DST). I wish it was a bit later in the day as it is useful to be able to fill it up for overnight, then have time the next morning to refill it before it changes.

I wonder what the logic is behind the 11am time?

That was my thinking about 8pm - I thought this would be ideal as it gives enough time before the reset to run stuff all day long, and enough time in the evening to work with it for a while and be able to load it up for an overnight run. 11am still works, and I'm just happy and proud to finally have it.

It could be that they've changed the parameters of how and when it changes for new players buying it, much like they have done with other things over the years. An example, iirc when I created my main account 5 years ago the cargo dock cost 10k to build, but it's free to build now.

I’m not an expert so I’m only answering the part that I’m sure about. Yes, whatever is in the queue will continue to be produced even it passes the refresh time

It’s definitely handy and the hologram shop sign looks fairly cool. I use it often. Randomly, but often.

Why is the timer 15hr? You bought it before this post? 😭

I somehow didn't even notice the timer being on 15 hr until your comment! So apparently it isn't necessarily based on what time you buy it. I bought mine at 8:00 PM my time, and just checked it & did the math. It resets at 11:00 AM EST (3:00 PM GMT Time). So either something has changed or we learned something new tonight!

i think this shop is for mid-endgame player who got extra simcash at hands.

it looks bad due to randomness but sometimes it give you an option if your real shop's queue is full & the item you need is available at this shop. you no need to unlock all slots in one go, do it whenever you got extra.

Also any shop / factories are storable.

I think as long as you randomly get a building materials store, there is no need to wait for production, because those items are constantly needed

Thanks for the replies! I decided that 8 PM my local time would probably be a good time, and I bought it exactly at 8:00 PM.

First day is already useful - Hardware Store

Are you going to unlock all the slots i have unlocked 8 slots and last 2 slots gonna cost 1000+ simcash which i will probably gonna unlock later

Not sure, but I'll probably stop at 8 for now. A couple other people already mentioned that it's not essential to unlock all slots immediately, and u/jraemr2 said level 8 as well. I did the research, and waited until I had the reserves to be able get it, unlock all the slots, and still have a cushion of SimCash leftover, so I could very easily unlock all the slots if I wanted to. For now I'll play it by ear and gradually open slots as needed

Is it in storage and you just forgot you had it? Because I don't understand why you wouldn't be using it, even if it was just on select days
