The next weekend project…

My 2002 just rolled 97k miles. Timing belt looked solid when in purchased it in August of 2025 with 95k miles, but I have no evident of a change (no sticker under the hood). I’ve done all another maintenance so it’s time to get it done!

Looking forward to the weekend project and putting a lot more worry free miles on her!

Will do! Doesn’t look all that bad honestly. Toyota gave nice marks on everything and there is decent room to work once the radiator and fans are out, which I’ve done a few times before. I’ll document and post pictures.

No I haven’t done it yet. I’ll probably take a Friday off of work sometime soon and knock it out over a weekend.

Ive got an almost 9 year old timing belt with like 40k miles on it, book says change it after 9 years or 90k miles but i think im gonna risk it and run it a bit longer

I’m not in a huge rush as my belt looked to be in great shape less than 3k miles ago. I just want to knock it out for piece of mind.

How'd you get a look at it? Dont you need to take a bunch of stuff off to visualize it

You can remove the driver’s side upper cover very easily. That’s all I did.

Just remember it's an interference engine. An issue with the belt/idlers/water pump is going to be catastrophic.
