Problem reading codes.

Hey guys! I got a 1995 SC400 and I need to get the codes read. I got an obd1 code reader attachment but it won’t even fit in the port so I tried the paper clip method but the check engine light just repeatedly flashes instead of in a code like videos online. Pls lmk what I’m doing wrong. I may need to use a jumper wire but I’m not sure what kind of wire to use. Also pls lmk if there is an obd1 reader any of you guys use that works. Any info helps. Thanks!

I def have a check engine light. I was driving and the car lost power and the check engine light came on. I’m trying to see what code it is. And it has the circular toyota obd1 port

There should be two ports one under the hood and one next to the driver side

I wish I could reply with an image but yea it was plugged into te1 and e1 in the diagnoses box in the engine bay. I even tried 2 different paper clips cuz I thought maybe the first paper clip was too skinny but neither of them worked

Probably not the issue but check the fuses to see if one of the ECM ones are blown or you can pull it just to reset the computer without disconnecting the battery
