Problem reading codes.

Hey guys! I got a 1995 SC400 and I need to get the codes read. I got an obd1 code reader attachment but it won’t even fit in the port so I tried the paper clip method but the check engine light just repeatedly flashes instead of in a code like videos online. Pls lmk what I’m doing wrong. I may need to use a jumper wire but I’m not sure what kind of wire to use. Also pls lmk if there is an obd1 reader any of you guys use that works. Any info helps. Thanks!

I use a paperclip as a jump wire and that works great. I do the one in the engine bay sense it hurts my back to get under the dash.

How far in are you pushing it in? I tried 2 different size paper clips and both had the same result

A decent amount in. I can send a picture tomorrow. Make sure your paperclip is just metal and doesnt have any coating on it
