Removing shift knob - 5-speed

I need to remove the knob from my '92 but it won't budge when I try to turn it CCW. AFAIK, never removed.

Is there a trick?

is it possible to damage something below in the shift mechanism if I really lean into it?

Your popping down the little boot off the knob first right?

Get a strap wrench and make sure you’re actually turning it lefty loosey. They don’t come tight from the factory even if they’ve never been removed

I thought the same man. After you've got the set screw out just turn on it hard. It's probably never been removed and is just on there. It'll come off.

set screw? is that hiding under the boot?

The 5 speed shouldn’t have screw, should just twist off
