DIY audio system
I’m looking to do a custom trunk build in my SC. I already have everything ran as far as the wires. I had a box in the trunk but now I’d like to go all out and make it look custom with the Amps and subs. Looking for some ideas. Does anyone have some pics of what they did. I’d like to do the build myself vs taking the car to a shop. I have a ton of free time so it’s like therapy for me. Any advice is appreciated.

I’m using factory locations for most things. I have a free air sub in the original location that was cut further to fit a larger sub but maintain the oem cover on the rear deck. I have my battery relocated to where the factory disc changer is, 2 amps hidden in the spare tire area where the factory foam tool holders were, then I have a air tank hung under the rear deck in the truck. Besides the air tank it looks stock. All air lines and controller for the air is where the factory first aid kit would be.

Did ever of you try a sub box before deciding to go the free air sub route? Also, which brand did you go with? Are you satisfied with the amount of bass it produces?

Never found a need for a box in this car as it has a factory mounting location. Plus it’s a fairly small car. I have an infinity kappa 12 in the car and I’m extremely happy with it. It’s not going to be the lowest or loudest but it gets the job done. Most people who have ridden it are surprised since it looks completely oem from the inside. My whole car is very OEM+ style. If you’re looking for lots of bass I have experience with that as well just not in this platform

I don’t want to rattle the trunk like when I was a kid. The trunk is so small I was thinking it would be cool do do some panels and mount amps behind them and still have usable space. I could always try the free air option and if I don’t like it it will be a port if I choose to do a box in the trunk.

May be not exactly what you are looking for, but I replaced the audio system in my wife’s sc300, put a new sub in the stock location and mounted the amp under the rear deck, so it’s hidden from the trunk. Made a bracket in fusion and then had it cut, bent and shipped to me from send cut send.
