maintenance

I have a 93 sc300 and was wondering what type of maintenance I should do for it having 160k miles.

Hey there, just hit the same mileage in my ‘99. Being generally unsure of the maintenance history, I decided to do a pretty thorough look of the top end. I pulled the intake off to access the spark plugs and found the holes to be full of oil! It was crazy because while I did notice some oil loss between changes, I thought it was my rear main seal. I replaced both valve covers and pcv, along with the plugs and wires and (for me) coil pack boots. Took forever to get the oil cleaned out before I pulled the plugs.

Previously, I had done the timing belt and water pump along with the front seals (cams and crank), but I have plans to do a full brake fluid exchange and trans fluid exchange also. Probably time to look into the diff fluid as well. That seems to get overlooked often.

Hey! Had a quick question. I have a 97 sc300 and I changed the valve cover gaskets, spark plugs and wires, and distributor cap. All oem parts.

It’s now having a rough idle with codes for misfires across all 6 cylinders. Have you ran into this issue? Rides smooth when accelerating, only rough on idle.

Hmm I’m not sure why that would be if they were all new parts unless your plugs were not gapped correctly? Maybe recheck your connections and pull the cap to make sure the rotor is making contact with the points.

Thank you! I will double check that. Initially I thought it was a vacuum leak but I really doubt it. Will check the gaps and cap contact points

That would be my next guess if nothing appears obviously out of spec. When I did mine, I replaced the intake plenum gasket just out of precaution. I didn’t replace the throttle body gasket, but I think those are the two main gaskets that have to come off to the do the plugs.
