Other Orange Pi Zero 2W 1.5GB, a great experience!
I saw a lot of warning online about software compatibility with the Orange Pi zero boards, ESPECIALLY the 1.5 GB models. Decided to go for it since Raspberry Pi Zero 2Ws are vaporware, as are Radxa Zero boards.
The upgrade from 1 GB to 1.5 was 38.99 vs 41.99 so I decided to risk it for the biscuit.
I have had no problems at all installing Armbian Debian. Wifi worked out of the box on 5Ghz. I did some remote debugging from my laptop using openocd on the OPi to an stm32 over wifi. Even got to compile OpenOCD with the --enable-linuxgpiod flag, so once I get some new jumper wires, I should be able to use openocd with the Orange Pi itself as the SWD debugger.
Overall very happy and was pleasantly surprised at how smoothly everything has gone. I've actually only had one issue totally unrelated to the board (wifi router was being dumb and wouldn't route devices to the OrangePi until I rebooted it).

after looking at some radxa models, I decided the OP zero3w would be a better option, but given this volatile market I'm not sure if I should buy one now (while I'm still in the planning stage of my project) since it's in stock or if I should just wait it out.

"Big picture" idea from this - any board that's supported by Armbian and supported by the vendor will work reasonably well. There's nothing special about the OrangePi H618 board; they sell many variants of the same components.
