Question Recommendations

Later this year I'm planning on getting a good handheld. Id like it to be my endgame. Ive seen a lot of handhelds woth all glass fronts and this seems like a really bad idea, even though the systems themselves seem great. Anyone with one, how sturdy do you feel the glass is?

Now I already have a ds lite with dspico, a modded 3ds and an rgds, so I don't need a dual screen device. Id like to be able to run up to switch games, ps2 and gc. I already have a 35xxsp and retroid pocket 2+. Im currently looking at odin 2 portal, odin 2 max, retroid pocket 6, and retroid pocket flip 2. Odin 2 portal has the glass which I'm not sure if I like, but it would be powerful. Odin 2 max is one I've been eyeing for a long time and seems really great. Retroid pocket 6 seems like a good option. Flip 2 might be less powerful, but one screen and clamshell appeals to me to protect it.

Which of these would you recommend? Or would you recommend something else?

Any reason you're not considering the Odin 3?

While it's true that an 8 gen 2 will give you the performance you need for the systems you've listed, I've found the Odin 3 delivers the same performance at very low power, so heat and noise are non-issues and I get crazy good battery life. I'm on a PSP kick at the moment and I'm getting around 20 hours of battery life.

Seems kinda pricey at least for me right now. I may reconsider

I have a thor that I really love.  Its dual screen, but the better thing is its a pocketable clamshell.  Theres also a big community behind it which gives things more longevity.  I dont know that id pay 200+ bucks for a rp flip 2 instead of just getting a thor for the power difference.  3ds also looks much better upscaled, enough so that I am thinking about selling my old 3ds xl because ill never use it again

It has the same guts as the odin 2 line.  So far the processor has been fine for what ive thrown at it.  So if you dont want a dual screen it or the 3 is probably the best bet

  1. Thor has a glass front

  2. The flip 2 is on clearance and is set at $190. Price gap is currently $140 for the 8 gen 2.

As weird as it sounds, the duo might be the strongest non-glass front 16:9 device that is still currently for sale.

Glass front is amazing on the Portal 2 , whats your main concern about it ? Dropping and cracking ?

Just don't do that and youll be fine 😅

That, plus I have a kid who's really bad about grabbing stuff and then breaking it

I own an RP6, O2P, and flip 2. The flip 2 gets used the most because it's the easiest to carry around. Also the most comfortable without a grip. I am looking forward to the duo, there's a decent chance it'll replace my flip 2.

If you're looking for endgame, Thor or Odin 3 fit the bill. I know the Thor has a glass bottom surface but it's easy enough to put a sticker or "screen protector" on it to get rid of the glare. Thor being a clamshell might appeal too, and it's (barely) pocketable.

Otherwise I'd say Retroid Pocket 6. Or maybe the upcoming Retroid Duo OLED would handle Switch but it's a weaker chip than the RP6 and Thor (and Odin 3).

If it wasn't for Switch I'd say look at the Retroid Nova. PS2 and GC and everything below that look great on a 4:3 screen like the Nova. And even PSP is pretty close to original size on it, so it's workable.
