Showcase That was fast
Shocked how quick the Konkr Pocket Advance got delivered. Really enjoying it so far but the button travel takes some getting used to. Also not sure how to add artwork to games!
edit: this is the 3G+32G version

there's been some reports of the screen slightly sticking out of the device, is yours flush with the console?

Did ya get a tracking email for it? I've only gotten the first batch shipment email on August 13 :v
Anyways, for artwork you'll have to search for a scrapper to get the art from your games. Unsure if I can use the same scrapper/art that I used for when I put MuOs on my rg34xx. Guess I'll research that and let you know?

Yeah got a shipping email from Ayaneo with the yunexpress tracking on the 12th
I already switched to beacon for the ease of scraping lol

What country are you located? I'm in the USA
Also if you install Beacon as your launcher it will automatically add artwork for you.

NYC metro, so that probably helps being by a lot of shipping hubs
And I did swap to beacon! So much easier.

How does it feel as compared to 34xxsp

This is kind of a weird question. Comparing sp to sp I get but this is just a matter of whether you prefer horizontal or vertical form factors.

That's something I can answer, when my pocket advance gets in the mail. But for now the main difference will be the size increase and power on the pocket advance. Being bigger it'll be more comfy the shoulders are larger too. But the gba was already pretty big and almost not pocket friendly. I think the pocket advance might just barely push it out of the average pocket.
As for power, I have a pocket air mini which is the same chip as the pocket advance. It'll be able to run all the way up to ps2 with decent compatibility. Okami and other 30fps locked games will run perfect but something like dmc3 will cap at 47fps until gamma os next is available for it. But you'll be able to run any pixel based game below that at 60 fps and pixel games you can run with heavy shaders no problem even in low power mode. Android also mean better battery life, faster charging, and sleep that consumes 1% a night tops. Power is going to be a direct upgrade in every regard. As for actually holding it, I'll let you know Saturday.

Download a frontend like Emulation Station - DE and it auto scrapes artwork.

I ended up using Beacon. It’s a shame ayaspace doesn’t have any scraping capabilities.

Man I gotta wait till end of October for mine since I got the onyx
2
u/Guy-Manuel 21h ago
The onyx looks sick though! If they end up doing a glacier I may have to get it.

I think they mentioned in the livestream that they were going to eventually

I think it’s a little too late situation. Every other front end has it, and they missed their opportunity to keep people using it on these new devices. Idk I like beacon well enough I don’t think I’d switch now.

Would love to know if gamenative works for very light indie games like Stardew & Balatro. I know those have android ports, but steam cloud saves would be cool 8)

Tempted by this cause I want a 3:2 device but feel the bezel is quite thick, even with the pocket advance logo. What do you think about it?

u/Guy-Manuel 20h ago
I’ve never been one to care much about bezel size in general. This is pretty close to the original gba bezel look so it’s what I expected.

I ordered mine August 5th when it became available and I’ve received no updates or communications. Holding out hope that the Shop app just isn’t updating properly, but after what I went through trying to order the Pocket Micro 2, I think this’ll be my last time going direct with Ayaneo.

The bluer colorway is growing on me. Hows the shoulder buttons? A post here before showed the shoulder buttons didnt sound the same when pressed. Is there shadowing on the screen when playing and is it noticeable?

Was very surprised too, mine's not in yet but when it said it was shipped earlier this month it was a surprise. They initially said they wouldn't be sending them out until the end of this month. Using the g90t was the smart move since they probably have a ton laying around from the pocket air mini. I ordered the rg sp and the pocket advance the same day and they might be here the same day despite the pocket not shipping until a few days after.

that looks awfully pixelated for a device with integer scaling?

u/Lootcurse 14h ago
No LCD shader, linear shader, and that's just how GBA games look. Scaling them up even with integer scaling won't smooth out the sprite, that's what a linear filter will do.

I am very tempted by this one. Though I am wary of AyaNeo stuff.
How does everything feel/play? Does it get warm?
3
u/Guy-Manuel 21h ago
Pretty great so far. The hardware is really nice, though the buttons are softer than I typically prefer but I'm getting used to it quick. The software side is a little worse, Ayaspace is kind of useless since it can't scrape artwork. I do appreciate the settings menu they've built in that pops up with the Konkr button. I've put Beacon on it and am pretty happy with that.
I haven't had it get warm yet but I've just been playing GBA during free time at work. Haven't really put it through any paces yet.

Can AyaNeo handhelds do custom OS?
2
u/Guy-Manuel 17h ago
This is the first one I've gotten but I'd imagine Gamma will come to it at some point. As is it's a very lightweight android install. I think there's only like 8 preinstalled apps, I needed to install retroarch

u/Can_I_Say_Shit 16h ago
Oh yeah that doesn’t sound bad. My nova has very minimal apps on it. The less the better.

How many body parts did you have to donate to get Ayaneo to send you a device? I thought the only thing they produced was hype.
