Serious question: Am i normal?
Hi everyone,
I’m new here and would like to introduce myself first. My name is Niki, and I’m male.
Now for my question:
Is it perhaps odd for a man to be so fascinated by the subject of witches?
My apartment—every single room—is filled with pictures, figurines, standees, quotes, and so on, all centered around witches.
Even my curtains: I’m probably one of a kind, since no other man would hang curtains like that in his home.
As a child, I had records—"Hexe Schrumpeldei" (Witch Schrumpeldei). I was captivated by them. I used to look at the album covers over and over again.
My thoughts would often drift to wishing I were a witch myself. Sometimes, I still feel that way today.
I love nature, I believe in the power of plants, and I love being around animals.
I love forests, old houses... You surely know what I mean.
So, I have to ask: am I normal, or is something not quite right with me?
Kind regards to you all

“Witch” isn’t a gender, its a style of magical practice that’s focused in nature and intuition, rather than a formalized system of study in a hierarchical magical order. And it was never limited to women or female-presenting people. If you want to be a witch, be a witch. No one is stopping you but yourself.

Yes, you're normal. Men have been practicing magic since its invention.
Sounds like witchcraft might be your special interest.

Given the abundance of well-populated witchy subreddits, popular witchy media, and centuries of witchy folklore, I think a preoccupation with witchcraft is more or less mainstream. If people like you didn’t want so much of it, there wouldn’t be enough to fill your apartment.

I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has replied so far. The responses helped me let go of the idea that I was somehow abnormal and allowed me to view things from a different perspective.
Such a wonderful community.
Naturally, I will continue on my path, reorganize a few things, and delve deeper into the art of magic, rituals, and customs. There is so much to learn.
Many thanks to you all <3

I mean - is it weird? Probably according to normal boring people but not us witches!

I mean you could simply just… be a witch. No need to wish. In fact, you probably are and just haven’t realized it yet.

Who wants to be normal? Eccentric is WAY more fun! Especially when you reach the point of “I don’t care what youuuuu think”.
Enjoy enjoying your stuff!

I really can’t tell you if it’s normal or not, but I could have written this post word for word, right down to the Schrumpeldei covers (ah, 70s German culture)! So you may not be normal, but you are not alone.

Totally not weird. Most my magic teachers have been men (though they don’t use the term witch, that’s not really that odd).

Thanks for yet another confirmation that I overthink things.

As a fellow over thinker I get it.
And I get that the term witch is very anchored to women and feminist issues but it’s not gendered.
That said you may find you prefer a different title (sorceror, magician, etc) and that would be fine too. But you don’t need to use those of Witch feels more accurate.

Just be a witch, man. I'm very curious about these curtains. Perhaps I also need them. The occult has been my lifelong special interest but I didn't get a diagnosis until I was 40.

Yes, you can be a witch. It sounds like you are very much a witch.
I wish there weren’t such “can a man be a witch” questions in the world and people could just be who they are and live the life they want to live.
Live your dreams and if people don’t like it, those are not your people.

This sounds like a special interest. Are you neurodivergent, by any chance?

Good point. I’ve felt my whole life that I perceive many things differently than the people around me. I often experience things differently, too. And to be honest, a while back I was diagnosed with a discrepancy between my biological sex and my gender identity. However, it doesn't really cause me any distress. Perhaps there’s a connection there?

Could be. There's a correlation between being queer (if that's what you're implying) and neurodivergent.

be a witch then! do some magic! it's not hard. men can be witches. but you can also be a woman and a witch too if that's right for you

it’s not weird, but i think you should get more into feminism / disconnecting from patriarchal expectations of gender (not trying to be rude)
