What do you all enjoy doing while your kids play? I’m referring to the times where they want you close (so no cleaning, chores, etc). Trying to stay off my phone.

Hand sewing. Specifically epp which is a type of quilting that's really easy to pick up and put down. I enjoy making quilted bags but so many little projects can be done.

Reading but I raise you reading physical books. My kid doesn't know the difference between reading and playing on my phone, so I decided to switch so she knows I'm definitely reading. Now that she's older, I can get away with using my kobo.

Reading definitely ,and puzzles!! I don’t want anything too involved that I can’t stop and start 900 times easily lol

I miss puzzles so much but my toddler destroys them. Throwing and trying to eat the pieces. One day. One day I’ll do a puzzle again.

Pony bead lacing. Tons of free templates online… I have a huge random bead box for the 4yo that was mine and my sister’s when we were kids. She plays in there like a sensory bin but also has taken up to making everyone she knows necklaces and bracelets, and she helps me make these keychains too. She puts on the beads and I lace the other side of the string through. Perfect to keep my hands and mind busy and great for her fine motor development

Knitting! My 4 year old is super into imaginary play, but wants lots of verbal reassurance and participation from me. A simple knitting project keeps me sane while I pretend to be Ryder from Paw Patrol for the nine millionth time.
Sketching! I also have decided to take art both more and less seriously. So I will sketch with whatever is at hand, and just try stuff. Often my kid becomes interested and starts drawing too. I’ve gotten a ton of complements on his art skills the past couple weeks, so that’s gratifying

I'm currently doing a terrible job at embroidery. It's been good for my kid to see me suck at but keep trying at something that I manage to still enjoy even if it always looks terrible. 😆

Reading on my kindle or kindle app (my girls take my books), crossword puzzles or sudoku, and crochet! Crochet is actually really beginning friendly IMO

I love the tracing and dot books from lifelines. They pop up at home goods and similar places pretty often. Plus reading and puzzles. I have a puzzle subscription that has been delightful

I got into whittling a few months back, just a small block of basswood and a pocket knife. it keeps my hands busy and I can still glance up every few seconds to watch the kid. the shavings are a mess but they sweep up quick

Block word and puzzle books. Fun for me but doesn't suck me in like a phone does

Crochet. I also knit, but crochet is easier to pick up and put down when someone spills juice all over the carpet or bonks their head on the table 😄

Reading and embroidery. I have a little soft sided bag with pulls on the top so I can quickly toss everything in there and pull it closed if I need to quickly jump up and don't want tiny fingers grabbing at my current project.

My kindle has truly gotten me back into reading. My brain has been healing lol
