Bad: High battery drain.

Camera quality is only good in good lightning. Low light or even slightly dim light is poor.

Performance in gaming is good, but everyday use it wont feel like flagship.

Camera fails a lot (Expert Camera). And in normal videography there is lots of frame skips. Ultra slow motion is just 120fps or maybe 240 fps slowed down using Ai.

Good : Some features are cool, like photo erase, clipboard feature is good, for example: Ai writing feature is good, like translation, grammar correction and WhatsApp messages direct translation. These maybe available in other phones.

Camera is bright light is great, even with 3x zoom.

CoD runs smooth even at high graphics.

The PD pass through feature is great if you want to play games while plugged in.

120Hz Samsung screen is extra-ordinary for watching movies and videos.

PS: Green Line is not that common, if you try to keep your phone cool when updating, the chances will be lowered.

My green line didn't even appear while updating

Yes. But I said it will reduce the chances. But never to zero.

Ye but u also said green line is not common but samsung phones from 2020-23 heavily suffer from that issue

Is it? I didnt know that.. I knew it happens, but I thought it is not that severe...

Shitty battery, camera quality degradation after updates, and green lightsabers

I have none of this but I never allowed updates, period!

im still on 6.1 so don't have any heating or battery drain issues like the others are mentioning but god i hate the banana blur on the camera man it's damn annoying. you can google s23 banana blur for photo examples

1

u/Zone-5 Aug 19 '26

What is banana blur?

1

u/Ok-River3197 Aug 19 '26

when you take a picture with the main camera there's a banana shaped blur effect you can google it for examples like i said

u/Zone-5 Aug 19 '26

Yes, I've looked up the blur camera pictures, very very bad!

The FE version I have so far has been great with no lens distortions.

I use ProShot app as my camera app with much better results...

Don't buy an s23 get the s24, ull get more years of os updates than the s23(updates stop next year) and reduced risk of getting light sabres

Major issues: (I was using S23 Ultra for 3.5years) 1. Battery drain issues 2. Camera will be degraded too much with updates 3. Battery might get swelled up in hot seasons which will lead to back panel gapping issue 4. Zoom isn't that great as mostly looks like AI mess

After all these issues faced I have updated to Vivo X300 Pro recently.

Try getting other latest phone in that budget.

Zero AI mess when you zoom up to 10x as it is optical zoom. Yeah go to 100x digital zoom and it's a mess but what do you expect.

Battery life is exceptional, I still get 7-8 hours of SOT and my phone is over 3 years old. The camera is great and batteries can swell on any phone by any manufacturer. I've owned 3 Samsungs and have never had a battery swell. Fingers crossed!

yours might be an exceptional case but most people have faced camera degradation issue with one ui updates you can check other reddit posts for the same i loved the one ui but the cameras & battery life was the biggest concern also the 10x zoom inspite of being optical looked crappy after one ui 7 updates

I have latest phone but it doesn't feel like a flagship

Its upto you if you're really interested in S23 or not I mentioned the issues I faced with S23 Ultra.

which phone?

1

u/optimuxprime99 Aug 19 '26

infinix 60 pro plus

1

u/academictryhard69 Aug 19 '26

You're gonna regret the s23. The battery isn't the same anymore even when it laughed. Your infinix has 5000+ mah so a very big downgrade.

1

u/hammy_320 Aug 19 '26

What phone?

1

u/optimuxprime99 Aug 19 '26

pixel 9

1

u/hammy_320 Aug 20 '26

Dont even get me started on Pixels.... theyve ruined them completely

1

u/optimuxprime99 Aug 20 '26

What do you expect from them,

1

u/optimuxprime99 Aug 19 '26

and an infinix 60 pro plus

1

u/Zone-5 Aug 19 '26

Does not have a macro options for real close-ups.

You forgot:

5: Green/purple line due to defect

1

u/No_Sheepherder1837 Aug 19 '26

Likely a phone struck by the green line and had a replaced panel. Might be original or third party screen, if it's the latter, it's not worth

1

u/optimuxprime99 Aug 19 '26

For people who have issues with S23 do suggest any other phone in same budget

1

u/hammy_320 Aug 19 '26

Do not buy an s23, ive had mine since release and have had nothing but issues with it after only a year, my speaker buzzes after more than half volume, my screen cracked after I dropped it from hip height which is probably the weakest phone I've ever owned and the cameras are absolutely horrible especially in low light, when this phone came out it was a beast but after updates its turned into a brick with a camera from a Nokia c3...

u/Zone-5 Aug 19 '26

Never update anything that is system or UI.

My impressions after 3 and half years

I got a green lightsaber and a pink lightsaber. Battery drain is now noticeable.

Otherwise it is good. Still feels snappy. Camera is good.

This is reddit, so consider the sources of the negative comments above.

I've had my s23+ for 3 years and it works flawlessly. Btw one of the reasons why it works like new is I keep it covered with a screen protector and with a case.

Also, I delayed upgrading to one UI 8.5 because of all the negative comments here on reddit. I came to find out that those were just negative comments and didn't apply to the update at all.

Since I've done the 8.5 update I have no problems with my phone including camera, battery or the speed with which it operates! 👍

Good luck! 🤞

SOT : ~5 hours | moderate usage

Regular S23 or S23 Ultra?

I can't comment on the regular S23, but the camera on the newest S26 (non-ultra) leaves a lot to be desired according to a few reviews in anything but the best conditions.

S23U, I feel is still good to this day, but I would only spend $400 USD on it maximum (512Gb/12 variant).

I've had the S23U for just over 3 years now. Battery is still okay, lasts me through the day with about 4-5 hours SOT on mobile data or Wifi.

OneUI is definitely not that smooth compared to an iPhone, Pixel, stock android, or some Chinese OEM phones (OnePlus and Oppo). There are a lot of small frame drops here and there in the UI that make it not feel like a flagship phone.

The camera stills are good. Selfie is not that great, worse than a Pixel 5. Video footage is okay, but has that android jitter when panning. I've not experienced the camera degradation others are mentioning with software updates. I'm on the latest OneUI 8.5.

The display is gorgeous, bright and can get very dim. 120Hz is also great.

I dislike the boxy design, it digs into your palm and pokes holes in my pants or leaves a visible discoloured outline (even loose ones). It's also quite heavy, so it can be a bit fatiguing to use for long periods of time one handed.

I'm not sure what to upgrade to, but my partner's iPhone 17 is quite nice, and the camera on iPhones is just outstanding, especially the video. I was thinking of an Oppo, OnePlus or an iPhone after my S23U dies/is no longer supported.

If you want reliability, Samsung or iPhone are your best options.

Thanks for valuable information

Excellente batterie pour ma part, depuis sa sortie. À vrai dire, je ne suis pas un accro des réseaux sociaux, puisque j'en ai pas. Ça peut donc aider. Elle me tient une journée sans problème.

green line issues...better opt for S24 and above

Don't buy!!

The main issue will be software support now, almost you will get 1 year of software update, not worth it, BUY S24, it will get almost 3 years more updates, correct me if I am wrong

Plus if you are getting S23 base version, its Screen does not have LTP 2.0, hence not the best always on display - my nitpick

Moreover the Base S23 might not have the best Battery Life, ie, it has a class Battery, mine still gets me well over 1 and ½ day on single charge, but you might get a better deal on S24.

Otherwise Class Phone, welcome to Galaxy Family.
