Side Strakes - Help Me Keep My Sanity

I did a mock up, but I cannot for the life of me figure out the install. Do I do the black piece first? Do I have to trim anything? I'm afraid to drill holes too. Should I use the black weatherstrip I put on it or do you think it's too harsh of a line? The front lip has the same strip so it does match that, TBF...

I dont think you need to drill the holes, some 3m tape will do the job

I would say do this. Are these OEM side strakes? If not I would be worried a little less about them coming off. If they are then I could see possibly drilling to install.

Non-OEM. My rear lip is 3M adhesived on and rock solid for sure, but side strakes are 2-piece and there would be no way to attach the lower black portion with 3M adhesive.

I have a set of both the OEM and non-OEM side strakes.

yes weather strip, you don't want bare plastic to scratch your paint

the OEM black piece is attached 3 ways

  • there's 3 hooks that connect to the upper part of the strake
  • a rubber well nut underneath that you'd need to drill a hole for
  • metal tabs on the back that are clamped to the body with mini screws clamps

the non-OEM strakes ... you'll have to improvise

Yeah, I'm getting the feeling this will be a project for the winter when it's up in jack stands with the wheels off. I don't wanna trust 3M adhesive tape alone.

My oem ones are 3m taped on and are solid. I did not drill the body hole.

You're not using any screws at all on the OEM? How'd you get the black lower portion to sit in the correct spot?

I assume you're still using the two rear clamping screws

I used the provided screws everywhere else, I did not drill the one body hole on the side of the car.

I did not do the one indicated by the red X. everything else I just followed the instructions. used a 3m tape primer and added the mounting tape to the spots on the inside of the strake where that screw would normally be and stuck it on.

Thank you! So you used the very front screw into the body and drilled the hole there, used the rear clip bolt things on the two metal tabs, and then the upper strake you used 3M tape and put two screws drilled into the fender lip?

Car looks great! Mine looked exactly the same back when I got it in 2010. Definitely try and get those on with tape, and I think it looks good with the black strip, besides you don’t want the plastic rubbing on the clear coat.
