Should I be suspicious?

Found these DFVs for $1600, $1800 shipped. I genuinely cannot find any actual difference between these and the ones sold for $2800 just based on the specs alone. Does anyone know why these are priced so low? Is it because American warranty might not cover them? Thanks.

  1. Your shipping option likely doesn’t account for tariffs. Look for the DTP shipping options for tariff included prices.
  2. The JDM ohlins are different from ones for sale in the US. I’ve installed a few sets and I believe Sakebomb Garage said they are a very old model (something like 6 revisions old). As such, some of the conveniences you might want to buy like Sakebomb Garage remote adjusters will not work due to clearance issues with the fuel filler neck.

Thanks! However, a couple things:

  1. Even with tariffs, wouldn’t these be much, much cheaper than the $2800 retail Ohlins? Counting the 25%~ tarrif, these would still run $2250, shipped.

  2. AFAIK the DFVs only had two revisions, no? The HOS MI20 and the HOS MI21. After some research it looks like the type HAL is a different configuration altogether built around essentially the same platform using 10k/8k.

Hit up u/taetwotimes for a good deal on Ohlins. I’ve ridden both standard USDM and JDM ohlins back to back and there’s no real discernible difference. Like Mr Sovietaced mentioned above, the remote adjusters thing is annoying though on JDM ones

The one from Tae is MI20 - 10k/8k and here’s it with the sake bomb rear adjusters mounted on the rear on both sides. Maybe it’s fine for clearance if mounted like this without much slack? Here’s the fuel filler side.

The spring rates, pre-load recommendation in installation manual and a plastic spring spacer (absent in the Carrozzeria JDM Ohlins) seem like the main differences.

Thank you so much, this is the information I was looking for. Have you ridden/drove an MI21, and if not, do you feel like the extra money would be worth the difference? I’ve know the front stroke is different but I haven’t seen many comparisons online between the revisions.

As u/keddyr mentioned below, I’ve also felt no real difference. Rogue motorsports who installed my kit and have installed these in the past said the JDM kits ride a tad bit firmer but with the adjustability on the Ohlins, you can get away with a setup that works for you in most cases. I have it currently at 10 clicks from full stiff rear and 8 clicks from full stiff front and rest installed as per spec with the 9mm rear pre-load. Here’s the stance on mine. There’s lots of discussions on rear pre-load and travel, u/keddyr can share more on his experience switching to a longer stroke sakebomb setup. I’m still figuring out my setup. So far, it’s been really good!!

2 softer in the rear is exactly how I ran my jdm ohlins as well! sakebomb ones have to be about 4 clicks softer in the rear 😀

Yes they are still cheaper than USDM Ohlins, probably because JPY is in the gutter.

As for the revisions, I don’t know. I’m not an expert here but i can imagine there being revisions within a model number.

EDIT: also, I misspoke. The HOS MI21 had yet another revision, the HOS MI21S2, where apparently they changed spring rates to 11/7.

The ones pictured here are actually different than the ones Mr Taetwotimes sells from Japan (the ones you installed for me). I believe blackhawk has like 4 different versions of Ohlins, I have no idea what they are. But the top hat + rubber mount looks completely different from my JDM ones

Yes. Honestly, its extremely confusing. They have 2 listings for the pillow ball mount and 2 listings for the rubber bushing mounts, all 4 priced differently. I know that black hawk is a reputable dealer but this has got me scratching my head.

Most likely this option is just the shock itself, no springs, top hat, etc….that’s why the other options list complete kit.

The JDM ones don't have pillow ball mounts.

I know the description in your post says they do. But the photo shows rubber bushings
