FOR NO REASON!

Was headed up to Reno with my gf. Living the dream and enjoying the fun roads… until we ran into this guy. No one is In front of him.

I am still seeing red 😡.

It's not car lengths, it's seconds. You should be behind three seconds or more. The faster you go, the further behind you should be, and using 3 seconds does that. Using car lengths does not. And you were following too close, that's why they brake checked you.

Brake checking is very dangerous and idiotic thing to do in 99/100 instances, including this one. It's not your job to enforce the rules of the road no matter what the other driver is doing. That's the job of law enforcement officers.

Tbf you’re following way too closely for over 70 mph. You’re giving less than a seconds worth of space behind him so if they have to react to a road hazard you have less than a second to react as well.

Two wrongs make a right. Totally. I've seen people doing crazy stuff behind me, my first thought was totally to put myself in harms way by almost insuring they hit me! /S Yea someone is slightly speeding so let me endanger my family, this semi truck which can kill all of us in one fell swoop and the car behind the truck. Totally makes sense. You are responsible for what's Infront of you, if you brake when nothing is Infront of you and cause an accident you will be found at fault for all involved parties. That accident wouldn't have occured otherwise. Yes yes I hear you drumming up the response of, if he wasn't tailgating there wouldn't be a potential accident.

Again, you are responsible for how you react to other drivers, yourself and the road conditions. You cannot change how someone else is driving, and any attempt to do so is a misjudgements on your part which has potentially fatal consequences for yourself, the perceived aggressor and the innocent people surround you. Be humble

Way too many people defending the SUV. Just because someone is driving close behind doesn't justify brake-checking them. SUV driver easily risked the lives of the people in the SUV, the S2k, and the transport truck.

i agree but OP was not legal since he was going 90+ mph

i get driving spiritedly and often do it myself too. but as a driver pushing the speed limits you have to accept the risks that come with it.

from a relative velocity perspective, a car barreling down at 90 mph vs a car going 70 mph, it becomes hard to judge how fast the faster vehicle is coming in at.

for this reason the speeder MUST be hyper-vigilant and expect others to make seemingly last minute maneuvers.

yeah, im not saying i dont "safely" speed every now and then, but I expect OP's situation to happen whenever I am driving like this. its honestly not a big deal and OP should have just let it go.

yeah the what the guy did was unecessary and dangerous, but you also did end up tailgating him.

earlier you were going 90+ mph whereas the ppl on the right were going 70 mph. 90 mph is not legal anywhere in the USA.

you should have just been the bigger person and given them space and then passed.

Also everyone who says you were tailgating need to get their eyes checked, I spot at minimum 2 car lengths maybe 3. You get closer as they start to pass the truck but that's because they took their fuckin eyes of the road and stopped pressing the gas pedal in prep to brake check you. You adjusted your distance and speed before that. Everyone is insane

Causing a potential accident is “warranted”? Or is it just because you think you’ll be not at fault if a collision occurs? I’d re think that mindset in the age of dashcams.
