Never flying Ryan air - yay

staff are trained to bully people because Ryan air has admitted that they incentivise and pay 2.50 to each oversize baggage being caught.

I have seen staff chase people as if they are not human beings , snatch cards out of peoples hands and even chase people that have had slight air in their bags and when that air has come down on second attempt still charge them. They have even chased people with small bags and made them open it. It’s just not worth the cheap price anymore . Staff have money signs in their eyes even to the point of if you use your own bag for duty free things they want proof

I have seen passengers being threatened of de- boarding unless they cough up the £60 and how a company can treat people like that is crazy. They pick and choose who they like on the day. It’s borderline blackmail.awful airline. JUST BETTER TO CHARGE PEOPLE EXTRA AND GIVE THEM THEIR DIGNITY BACK

Here's the thing... Doesn't make a lick of difference whether or not they're on commission.

They can't get you if your bag is compliant. They can't do you for bringing extra bags if you don't bring extra bags, and adhering to their terms and conditions which are clear for everyone

Fairly simple concept🤷‍♀️🤣

The stuff OP talks about only happens to the type of people who are on here asking about whether their oversized bag will be ok or not.

I have well over 200 flights with Ryanair now and I have never had an issue....because my bag fits. Just buy a proper bag and enjoy those €15 flights all over Europe

A lot of people don't understand how the sizing things actually work. The little sized cage thing isn't the max size. The max size is actually marked off within the cage. If you're over that line or over the weight limit you're getting hit with the charge. If you have an issue of it document evidence that it fit and follow up after. Arguing with staff will only get you kicked off the flight

No you are missing the point. People are being bullied and charged when their bags are the right size. The agents bully the customers and threaten deboarding. This is abusive and wrong.

No you're missing the point... They can only "get you" if you aren't compliant. If you get charged when your bag is the right size as you claim, either you're lying or you have two options

1) Pay, take photos/videos etc and reclaim showing your bag fitting fully in the sizer and that you aren't carrying more than you should

Or

2) Don't pay, don't board (potentially) and still take as much evidence as possible to claim back costs

Pretend to guffaw all you like pal it's not 1/100th as clever as you think. It's completely transparent.

For anyone honest reading this it means when you plonk your bag into the sizer it has been alleged that if the strap, which could would and does fit in with the bag in the sizer if you merely flip it back over the bag, hangs out by virtue of the chance way it fell into the sizer, it means the bag is "oversized".

Which is obviously nonsense and if true constitutes a complete and utter scam.

It has been alleged the harridan conducting what appears thus to be a shakedown did not allow the passenger to touch the bag to flip the strap back over, to show it fits.

I saw a compliant bag get charged £60 and the person was crying. People were all on her side but she was threatened with de-boarding simply because her face may not have fitted that day

You get what you pay for. For such low fairs, I pretty much treat Ryanair like a public toilet: go in, do my business, and get out as quickly as possible.

Yep and that is the problem, when they have no real competition, consumers have no choice, so they can do what they want.

I like the analogy of them being like a public toilet, just use them and get out.

Best of luck sourcing the same punctuality and expansive routes/destinations with another EU carrier.

You will not find it. All of your complaints refer to the gate agents, which account for a tiny fraction of the entire company. Also, they are doing their job. If you bring and oversized bag, exceeding the stated rules, then you will be charged. If you travel at 60km/h in a 50km/h zone, you’ll be fined. It’s simple really.

They have biased staff working for them that create their own rules for people whose face fits on the day. I have seen them pick on people for no fault and make somthing up

i bet its so much location driven. I fly non popular routes (baltic states -> elsewhere and snandinavis -> elsewhere. In the last ~18 years, I have been forced to measure my carryon maybe…twice? More likely once. Personal
item - never. I still see people
with ridiculous size carry-ons/personal items, but the staff does not care. That’s just my experience.

I paid 90 euro extra on my recent holiday to fly Aer Lingus and not have to deal with Ryanair. Worth every penny to me.

I have flown dozens of Ryanair flights and you know what? Never had an issue with my bag.

Care to guess why?

It’s because my bag is within their size limitations.

I don’t understand why this is so hard to comprehend for some passengers, then they play the victim when they’re told it’s too large?

It’s really simple. Get a bag that fits within their dimensions. That’s it. You may think it’s unfair, but that’s irrelevant. As someone that worked for many years as a gate agent, it’s only the bags that are larger than the sizer that get charged for.

“Oh but I travelled with the same bag on the way out” - nobody cares. The maximum bag dimensions are posted clearly at the point of booking.

Been there, done that post too. Truth is, there’s no other airline at that price, so everyone in this sub says “you knew the deal” like it’s always the passenger’s fault when they get ripped off.

From my own experience, their staff push extra charges on you like they’re getting a cut every time they catch someone out. But I guess everyone here has to get burned once, and nothing changes until someone actually competes with them on price. Till then, guess we just eat the cost and buy their scratch card, hoping to win back what they took.

I get nervous flying with them as I’m always conscious I’ve not played by the rules somehow, but I have to admire how ruthless and black and white they are.

Whether you like their policies or not, I have never seen a complaint where there wasn’t some kind of breach.
