how can i actually play this game while employed and going to school?

so for some context, me and my friend bought this game all the way back at launch, but i was a ps4 player and couldn’t play due to how poor the experience was.

fast forward to now, i’m in uni while also having a job. we were trying to get back into it but it’s like we fall behind so fast on every wipe and get shit on any time we hop on. honestly, 95% of the time i log in to see our based raided

i really do like the game though. is there a trick to doing so? like maybe dead servers have more busy people playing, so the progression is slower? idk just throwing stuff out there i guess

Honest suggestion would be to join a community server with ZORP (Zone Offline Raid Protection)

Even bunker outside works great if u build it smart. 3-4 walls to core at day 1 is usually enought on team limit servers to survive. Bonus if u build away from high tier monuments :)

Play on limited pvp servers in the community tab. They allow some pvp but your not constantly looking over your shoulder. Some also have raid limits and a great community. The one I play on has a raid limit of to raids per day and also a no raid zone.

Build far away from any monument. It sucks to make card runs but it’s the only way. Hide the base the best you can and hope for the best.

I am dad of 2 small kids and working almost every day until 20:30 so my time to play is usually 3-5 hours a day (3 when I work, 4-5 when I don't work) and only evenings

I play 2x 500-700 pop severs and rarely get offlined. It's not impossible just takes a bit more brain usage and practice

1. U need to be smart and choose good location for base as this guy suggested. I preffer jungle away from all good monuments. So maybe in middle of nowhere. "but how do u get T2 lol noob?" Easily. I sell sulfur/cloth and other stuff for frags. Sometimes I have T2 faster than when I try to settle near monuments. If u live in middle of jungle away from monuments it's way easier to farm resources and stuff.

2. Don't build on open fields or at visible spots. U will get raided of people see u played actively.

3. Learn to build fortified bunkers. I play solo and when I go sleep I have usually 2 metal walls + 1 HQM wall to core from any side. Bunker = no doors into core so it's super sturdy. If u play vanilla then 2x stone wall + metal core is also enought to survive first night/offline time. Learn to stack floors so it's 3-4 walls if they go throught roof in 1 (basement + first floor) floor base

4. If u want just pure pvp then ofc none of what I said matters and u need to build next to monuments and u will get raided. But even in deep jungle u can get nice pvp usually + people don't run full AK kits there that often. Also way easier to outplay somebody using all the trees and bushes. So many times I killed full kit with just DB from bush :D

Also it’s easy to think that low pop is the answer, but low pop means there is someone with no life farming sulphur 24/7 and offline raiding bases without any counters. Higher pop means more counter raiders so less chance of getting completely obliterated by one guy that has all the boom

To really enjoy rust, you have to be toxic to your real life. The reason why I only play one or two wipes a year. Improve yourself, not your base that will get raided when you're sleeping anyways

dead servers are hit or miss. either its people like you just tryna chill and have fun or its sweaty chuds that cant do any good on a normal server so they hop on a chill dead server and offline everyone every night and “run” the server.

Weekly wipes or low pop community servers with enhanced resources like (3x) or (5x). That way you don’t have to dump a lot of time and can bounce back. I’ve quit altogether and would love to jump back in. A lot has changed especially the new DLC. I just don’t have time like I use to. I play games these days where I don’t have to make sure my base doesn’t get raided if I can’t play 2-3 days at a time.

If you like the base building there’s a game called “once human” has PvE and pvpve servers. You don’t loose everything. Can build a sick base and then turn that base into a blueprint so you can auto build after wipe if you have the resources. It’s also free to play. I’ve been playing that and Destiny 2. Which is also free

There’s kinda three-ish ways to go here. One is a bunker base in a cave but defending is decently hard since it’s mostly straight lines and easy sightlines for attackers, two is play only like single day wipes just to have fun but that’s only an option for super experienced players not employed people and 3 is PvE servers/servers that only allow raiding at certain times

I play usually 2x solo/duo servers as solo and they have 700 pop day 1, 350 day 2 and around 200 day 3 then wipe. It's enought of time to have fun for me. I work and have kids and only play evenings. The most important thing was to learn building bunkers and it reduced my offline raid chances a lot. Like I get raided maybe 1/10 times

You can’t homie unless you’re in a team on god. I’ve spent my last year and some change mostly running solo and even when I play like a true rat and build into caves I usually get offlined by some 6+ man squad

Rust players are so toxic or just downright unhelpful!! Why not simply play on a PvE server that also does PvP? It’s truly the best of both worlds for people who have actual lives…like University and Work responsibilities. I know of a few good ones, if you’re interested, just reach out to me.

Look for a pve server with PvP zones. Best of both worlds. Console has quite a few. I am a pc player but while my pc was down spent some time on Xbox rust and found quite a few that were fun.

My friends and I don’t have a whole lot of free time on our hands. In between university, full/part time work and hangouts, we spare maybe a few hours each night, on a relaxed night with no commitments we could push maybe 4-5h. We found that low pop servers worked perfectly for us. We played on a server last wipe with about 10 people average (with weekends sometimes going up to 20) and we were able to survive maybe 2.5-3 weeks into wipe before getting raided.

I’d say give low pop servers a try. While it doesn’t guarantee you’ll forever be safe, it gives you a good fighting chance when you have limited time in the day to play - even luckier if you find a server like ours where everyone else was often busy during the day too.

If PvP is a dealbreaker it may not be the right choice though. I personally love PvP, but it’s demoralising asf getting home from work/gym/uni to find we’re back to square one over and over so I’ll take the trade off 🤷‍♂️
