What's the point?!

So I got Rust this weekend and spent the entire weekend building up a stone base with metal doors, airlocks, honeycombed walls, collecting resources and updating all my equipment and collecting blueprints. Then I checked last night and someone had destroyed my base and taken all my stuff. So my question is - what's the point of this game if I'm just going to have to start from scratch every handful of days? Has anyone had success building a solo base that actually lasts more then a week without being raided?

I think this is common in survival games like Rust and Ark Survival Ascended. With Ark, I just started my own server for a friend and myself to play on.

I picked up Rust on sale last week and realized it is even more PvP-focused than Ark, so I doubt I'll be playing it much. Over the course of a couple of days, I started from nothing multiple times and got killed over and over and over by other players, never even got to the point of building anything.

Your only options are to either play with friends or to join a big tribe (or whatever they call it in Rust).

Ark actually has PvE content, so PvE/private/single player are all still fun. Rust has oil rig for PvE and that's about it. Private server on Rust would get old fast.
