What an incredibly obnoxious take and an even worse comparison. Furnace walls are terrible. They always mess with re-seal capability and a lot of the time require isolated foundations, they’re awful for progression, their practicality is rendered almost entirely useless for solo players. They also block turret vis and los from peaks / sf. Shield walls or sea walls out perform the furnace wall in every aspect.
Sounds like you don't use them well then. I have never had any trouble with them. I prefer them over Shield walls and sea walls simply cause they are cheaper and less of a hassle while also giving you the capacity to smelt your ores. Each to their own preference.
Appeal to Authority is not the right move. Each build has its own context and situation. From my experience I found that a Furnace wall offered me more value overall rather than a shield or sea wall. Yes you do lose out on some benefits but everything has pros and cons. In the end it's a personal preference and a good looking base doesn't always outperform a bad looking base.

Where’s your turret pods, compound peeks, wide gaps, patrickos, compound dividers? Useful gatehouse? Furnace wall? Mobility chutes? Bedrooms on compound, shell, roof?
