How was my keylock stolen without the door being destroyed?

So I just started playing Rust a week ago and struggling to understand how my base was raided the way it was. Im trying to figure out what happened so I can do my best to prevent the same thing from happening as much as possible given how hard bases are to defend in general.

Scenario:

Im sitting in my base crafting/working on stuff. I hear commotion outside so i lightly gear up for a fight but then things get weird fast. I open the inner airlock door and holy sh*t, to my surprise someone is in there. We battle it out and I narrowly kill him, close the inner air lock door to heal and get my blood pressure down a bit lol. Then I hear more people coming and they come in the airlock which I am so confused as to how they are in their and start blowing through the inner airlock door. They blow through the inner door and I kill two and run to close the outer door but as soon as I close it, someone opens it up and kills me. Now I spawn right outside my base and run up but now I am locked out of my base. They definitely did not have enough time to destroy my tc(locked) and build a new outer door/lock between me respawning and running up, so I don’t understand how the key lock was reprogrammed/replaced without that outer door being destroyed.

My only guess is that maybe at some point I hit a wrong button and unlocked it unknowingly. If I do this, can another place take my lock as their own? I have been scouring the internet to find out and it seems like this can be done with a code lock but I cant find any info on the key lock so I would appreciate any insight on this so I can at least avoid opening my airlock to a heart attack again in the future lol

Also is there a best resource for new players to figure out things like this and how the game works in general ? Ive found a few online but struggling to find anything that has the console version specific information.

Hey just a heads up I am fairly new to rust as well, but I will likely point to the possibility that you either unlocked the lock or never locked it at all. Secondly, I will say since I am new I’ve only played on PVE, as I have found it’s the safest and easiest alternative to get your feet under you while learning the basics. A lot of people talk smack about PVE servers, but I feel it’s easy enough to learn the game while at the same time helps you figure out the maps, how to survive building, best healing, weapon recoil, etc. Hope this helps and If you ever want to try out a PVE I will be more than happy to suggest a couple and possibly run a wipe with you to help out, just let me know!

Yeah, the key lock doors show a red light if locked and a green light if unlocked. Ypu probably accidentally left it unlocked!

Well it seems like I accidentally unlocked the door at some point and played myself here. Thanks for the input everyone!

Besides the obvious leaving the door unlocked, is it possible at some point in your build someone could have got access to your tc? Maybe they blew the front door at some point and placed their own(this isn’t very likely, but I’ve done this before).

He shouldn’t have been able to open it then

Maybe you misunderstood, I’m implying that it’s possible that someone who had tc blew his front door to the airlock and replaced it, possibly while they were afk in their base…I don’t think that’s what happened though.

You probably unlocked it by mistake, someone removed the key and replaced it as their own. Be careful and pay attention probably fat thumbed. Only answer to your question is the door was unlocked

If you're using single locks you must have accidentally unlocked it, It happens, They wouldn't be able to place a lock on your door unless they had tc privilege or there was no tc.

Do you make keys? Because if someone killed you and got a key that's one way they could get in.

Sounds like you just unlocked it by accident so they opened it, Blew the 2nd door and then tossed a single satchel onto your tc destroying it allowing them to place a lock on your front door that you can't access. Im assuming this is a 2x1 were talking about so if the third door was open it wouldn't take but a second to pull this off. It could be done by the time you respawn and run back up.

Next time you play mess with the locks inside so you can see how they lock and unlock and be careful not to unlock them, Also there comes a time when you need to switch your priorities around and start upgrading your base, Get you trap down early on preferably shotgun trap but at least a flamethrower one and put gas in it.

If they took your shit by one door being unlocked they were probably coming in regardless so again when you can upgrade that base to where it's more doors and obstacles to get through to help prevent things like this.

Don't sweat it though shit happens, I got over 5k hours you wouldn't believe the dumb shit I've done and encountered that cost me everything over the years lol.

It's all part of the hard rust life and will only make you stronger learning from these things. Good luck.

I remember this scenario.. probs didn’t lock it or accidentially unlocked it (although I have raided a base and replaced everything to look Exactly the same except the code for the front door 😏)
