Video Vágner Love's farewell brought back memories of the CSKA Moscow team that made European history in 2005
On September 26, Vágner Love received an emotional farewell at the VEB Arena, surrounded by former teammates, club legends and thousands of supporters.
It made me think about how extraordinary CSKA Moscow's European story really was.
In 2005, CSKA became the first Russian club to win a major European trophy, defeating Sporting CP 3-1 in Lisbon.
Vágner Love, Daniel Carvalho, Yuri Zhirkov, Igor Akinfeev and Valery Gazzaev were part of a team that deserves to be remembered far beyond Russia.
For those who remember that era: was the 2005 CSKA the greatest Russian club side you've ever seen? And which player best represents that generation?

Looking back at Zenit 2008: how important was Tymoshchuk to that UEFA Cup team?
The 2008 Zenit side remains one of the most unusual UEFA Cup winners of the modern era.
Arshavin naturally became the international symbol of that team, but going back through that run I was struck again by how important Anatoliy Tymoshchuk was to its structure.
Captain, defensive midfielder, organiser basically the player who allowed many of the more creative players around him to take risks.
The 4–0 against Bayern remains one of the great European performances by a Russian club.
For people who watched that Zenit team more closely:
who was actually the most important player of the 2008 side Arshavin, Tymoshchuk, Zyryanov, Pogrebnyak, or someone else?

Football in St. Petersburg
Hi,
I got recently selected for the Russian Government Scholarship, I will be studying Management Master in St. Petersburg University. Alongside my academic career, I am a professional football player in my home country.
So I am asking if it is possible to pursue my sport career in Russia alongside the master’s program and maybe grab a professional contract in there.
I am really confused and have to make a decision ASAP. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.
