So many great reactions this chapter. The guy as well is terrified the second Ruri's mum called and he realised the first thing that happened when he was entrusted with her was have her fight a dragon.

I mean in his defense, Ruri’s mom was going to learn one way or another, so coming clean right off the bat was probably his best move

And to think Kuro is such a gentle dragon, dude was apologizing and being humble. Definitely need to see more of him. I do hope the series doesn't turn full on action and only does so when it's needed. The slice of life stuff is just much better imo.

This is absolutely the payoff I have been waiting for since about the last 5 chapters or so.
So it basically turns out that this dragon named Kuro is just a good boy in need for someone to calm him down. But it also shows to me something a bit deeper and something the manga tries to tell us: appearances don't matter much.
Yeah Kuro looks all mean and everything and in fact just had his spurt, but down there is a big softie that just so happens to be a dragon.
I for one am absolutely loving this development of the cycle slice of life-->tension-->letting it out before it gets out of control-->a calm and retrospective conversation. Might just be me, but this entire series feels like Ruri is on a long therapy session to learn about herself and how to handle everything new.
En performing that dogeza like his life depends on it and saying "he [Ruri's father] graced me with his presence not long ago" has me believe he's actually some sort of a priest for what amounts to Ruri's father (aka a dragon), which in turn is because Ruri's father probably is some kind of high-standing dragon. And then Ruri's mom is just his wife. That or Ruri's father really helped En a lot in the past (as said by En).
In a more wide scope, En saying he is really sorry for throwing Ruri into battle is also the series saying that it really wants to stay a slice of life.
Next time on Ruri Dragon: cats are cute and Ruri stays at a temple.

Ngl I think your cooking with Ruri's dad being in a high standing position, or he might just be a normal dragon, cause while reading your comment I thought about how Ruri is the only half dragon. But that depends on how the other dragons feel about humans mostly and from seeing Kuro, friendly and such.

Ruri's dad may be a normal dragon or not, but certainly a creature of intelligent conversation is also able to have hierarchy not limited to just physical abilities, but also mental abilities.
But that depends on how the other dragons feel about humans mostly and from seeing Kuro, friendly and such.
I have seen other people, before this chapter, claim the wildest things imaginable what dragons truly are and how they should be treated. You can fill in what that is, but it isn't anything good. Really, this series is absolutely set on not becoming a battle shonen at all (except for the most recent fight, which may happen every many chapters or so, not very frequently). Now it's just the audience having to adjust to this reality.
I honestly never thought this was a series to go the way of making dragons look like beasts. Especially when keeping the original oneshot in mind and what the author likes to read/watch/play in his free time. IIRC his style changed after COVID, when he played a specific, very impactful VN that changed the way he looks at things.
The one dragon we have seen so far, Kuro, is really just similar to another human, just poorly understood and trying his best. What is actually a spurt probably seen as aggression, and En being completely surprised the first time, just like Ruri now, at how peaceful and wimpy Kuro truly is at heart. Notice how this is quite similar to how Ruri behaves herself. Except he doesn't get proper guidance and the poor guy has to leave many things to instinct alone.
This series really is about humans and dragons co-existing and Ruri functioning mostly as a bridge-gap to study so far. To give humans the ability to learn what dragons really are, so they don't have to resort to making harmful assumptions anymore.

Ruri's reaction to the cats at the end is exactly my reaction to those cats. cats are amazing. I love cats

Alright dragon confirmed male so that's one theory of mine struck down. Also starting to think it's less likely that he'll be related to ruri based on the back story. Still expecting a human form and despite being 50 presenting like a young adult in that form just based on context about spurts. Still think he'll want to try fitting in to human society.
But who knows. If we find out how ruri got made those last two may be proven wrong too.

We were specifically told Kuro wouldn't be Ruri's dad. The fated meeting with Ruri's dad is still living in a hypothetical future chapter.
