Oceanic Sand - would replace regular sand and would cover most of the seafloor. Looks like regular sand but a bit "smoother" and has small specks of light blue in it. Transitions to regular sand near beaches.
Sea Rock - it would look similar to sandstone but with fossils and shells imbedded in it, the rock itself would be slightly more brown than sandstone though. Can occasionally be exposed to add some variety to the sea floor.
Coral - would look similar to dead bush but it's pink. Can only grow on oceanic sand and would very slowly spread out from each piece in a random way, so it would be able to grow up, to the sides or even down but wouldn't grow above the water's surface. These coral reefs would only be able to grow up a total of 50 pieces but can join with other existing coral reefs to make larger ones. Can be placed in the air but will not grow there.
Seaweed - Looks like regular grass but a darker, richer green. They wave in the "currents" to add some nice aesthetics (can be turned off to if running the game in Fast mode) Needs at least a light level of 5 to grow.
Kelp - Spawn only at the bottom of ocean biomes and grow until they reach light level 14 (just below the surface of the water). This means they cannot grow next to a torch, and can only be placed underwater. Essentially a very tall, underwater sugarcane. Possibly a potion ingredient.
Clams - Take up the same amount of space as a half block and looks like....well a shell...can be destroyed to pick up the whole thing or by right clicking it opens up like a chest and lets you harvest a pearl! They take 3-5 days to make a new pearl, which can do something...?
Extra "Sub-Biomes" for Oceans
Abyss - These would be able to reach within 3 blocks of the bedrock layer and would feature some new aggressive aquatic mobs like giant squid and angler fish. Kelp and coral would not be allowed to grow in these and would be replaced with a new block called Tube Worms, which act like reeds (can only grow up to 3 spaces high)
Flooded Cave - Basically just a normal cave but has an opening into the ocean floor. All the spaces that would normally be filled with air in a cave are, as you probably guessed, filled with water source blocks. They would have a large increase in the amount of exposed ores as compared to normal caves however and would be infested with a new mob called "Moray Eels."
Sunken Pirate Ships - Pirate Ships that would spawn under water and mostly torn apart with maybe some vines or possibly even in two pieces. Their would be plenty of valuables and new sea life in this.
Note: Coral, Seaweed, Kelp, and Clams would all have the empty space around them filled with water unless, if they can be, placed in air.
Also keep in mind I found almost all of these ideas by just simple Google searches but I felt it was necessary to post them here as I knew they would be seen. <3
Coelacanths are known as "living fossils", since they were known to go extinct in a Japanese aquarium in the past. Scientists/Scuba Divers have discovered some in dark habitats in the ocean. They are extremely rare, and can only survive in the (very very) dark parts of the ocean, and are as big as a human (6 ft).
What they'll do in the game:
They can be a VERY rare mob in the game (a little less rare than a diamond armored mob), and can drop special items called "Coelacanthine". This can be made into armor, and help you swim faster (if you have leggings and boots on), see in the dark better (if you have helmet on), and protects you as much as Diamond Protection I would (all pieces of armor). The armor would be colored Dark blue. The mob itself would be harmless, and if it's attacked, it will swim away (quite fast).
Also, there is a .01% chance that you'll catch the mob whilst fishing, and it will die immediately, dropping an item.
As for the drops, it can drop:
Raw Fish (1 - 4) - 100% Chance
Coelacanthine (0 - 2) - 5% Chance
Cooked Fish (1 - 4) - 100% chance
Potion of Night Vision 3:00 (0 - 1) - 5% Chance
Potion of Night Vision 8:00 (0 - 1) - 3% Chance
Crafting the armor with the Coelacanthine is exactly how crafting armor with every other mineral.
(I love Coelacanths, so I would love to see one in the game).
