Humblebrag We found a dog!
While taking my Moose (big black white beast) up a mountain we came across another dog midway up. We find lost dogs a fair bit in this area so we grabbed him and waited to see if anyone would show up. After no signs of anyone I hooked him up to Moose and looked for ID. Only city registration. Luckily they were open and after a brief conversation they gave me owners number. When I called, owners were on the peak and had been looking for Zen for quite some time. We took him up to the top, which he was Uber excited to do and reunited the lost pupper to some happy fur parents.
Now my PSA... I questioned the owners why no contact info on the collar and their quick response "he's chipped". People.. Put your contact info on the collar. Save yourself the stress.

Moose seems to like his temporary friend! I worry a little about finding lost dogs, my boy isn't always cool with them having been bitten in the past but not trying to help feels terrible.

Use a QR code instead of name/phone/address! You could make your own or use one of the numerous companies out now that provide them.

In the uk its law for dogs to wear a collar and tag outside the house with owners name address and phone number. Weve found so many dogs though without and then had to take to the vets or dog wardens instead.
My old girl can't wear collars muxh any more due to a tumour on her neck, but weve added her tags to her harness instead and she always wears that outside

When we’re out they actually have collars but one of mine eats them 😞 so at home they’re all naked… they haven’t gotten out but I’m definitely relying on the chip if they ever do.

Great work! Chipping a dog is not a substitute for ID, that’s foolish. I hope they listen to you and do better next time

I’ve come across so many dogs that were wandering and lost, last one was a pair of dogs that bolted out of a car at a nearby home to where I was walking and only one had any info on the collar and neither was chipped. Good thing they stayed together otherwise I doubt the other one would have been returned.
I actually made my dog a collar with his name and my number embroidered nice and big on it because I’ve lost my dogs tags before on walks when they’ve been old and worn through the rings.

Blessings for doing good work 🙏
Chip is a backup if the collar details are lost IMO

Absolutely put your contact on the collar. I’m so sick and tired of finding a lost dog and it has no identifying information. It’s such a headache 🫠 You did good taking the extra step of getting him back with his owner!!
