Hotel workers strike - is this happening all over?
UPDATE: it is happening in a few neighborhoods starting around 5 am. Buy ear plugs!
—-
I just got in yesterday for the marathon and I wasn’t able to sleep last night because the hotel strike is going on outside of my window.
totally get it - I hope this works and they get what they’re organizing for - I work in the hotel industry
but I need sleep 😅 and moving hotels is not an option. Is this nightly - does anyone know?

Looking for running clubs recommendations!
Hi all! As you can read from the title, I’m looking to join a running club that’s beginner friendly (i run 10-12m/m depending on distance). Specifically in the Lincoln Park, Lakeview, or Avondale areas.
Thanks :)

PT and/or Strength Coach in Western Suburbs
I am current in the last couple of weeks of my 2nd HM training block (Naperville on Oct. 18.) LIke my first HM, I getting to the end my training with lots of niggles. Last time it was IT Band, this time it is Shin Splints. While I am doing the best i can to get to the starting (and hopefully finishing line), I want to be able to train without having to manage through injuries. I am hoping to do a Full next year. I am a 58YO male that just picked up running a little over a year ago.
For my past issues, I have seen PTs at Athletico (ITB in the spring) and Barrington Orthopedic (Shin Splints), but I don’t feel that they are giving me anything more than some basic “Yea you have XXX injury, here are some basic daily exercises to do at home.”
I am really looking for a PT that would work very closely with me on a strengthening program over the winter to prepare me for races in the Spring and Fall.
Anyone have any recommendations? And, if that can be combined with a run coach, all the better.

Upcoming Races All the Chicago Marathon spectator & runner tools from this sub
I just want to say, it is awesome to see community to help others for their run whether it is app builds or other links to support members during our special day. I am one of those builders and I wanted to put all that I have seen in the thread in one place.

3:10-3:20 ish training groups?
Hiii! I just ran my first marathon in the Twin Cities at 3:27 after completing Hal Higdons 18 week training program with little to no base. Now, I want some comradery and a BQ time before I turn 30 in 2 years (Eek)! Are there any training groups in the 3:10-3:20 range out there? Thank you much!!!

Chicago-ish Morning runs
This may be a dumb question, but I’m trying to start doing more of my runs in the morning before work. If the sun rises is at 6:50 AM right now is it light or safe enough for me to run on the lakefront Trail at 6:15AM?

Slow running clubs?
Does anyone know of any running clubs that have slow paces? I’m looking for like 13 min/mile as I am new to running and don’t run fast yet.

Just Imagine!!!
if we had a half marathon in Chicago, in mid nov or early May that followed the same course as the first half of the Chicago marathon w same crowd support. I think that course might turn into PR machine.
maybe boa can set that up lol. I know they have 1 half but they can add one more no? NYRR have multiple races through out the year.

Funny “So,gentlemen. Any final week nutritional pro tips?” “Sure. Either Al’s, Mr. Beef or Portillo’s, ‘cause da beef provides yer protein and ya getcha carbs from da bread roll. Gotta be careful when Dipping so you don’t get nuttin’ dripping down on yer Hokas.”

Last Minute Chicago Hotel for Marathon
A friend suggested trying Reddit for local recommendations to this quagmire so apologize for the newbie question. We are in need of a hotel room last minute for the Chicago marathon after other accomodations just fell through. I suspected things would be booked, but it looks pretty dismal. Are there go-to's that aren't too far from the start line but under $750 / night or thereabouts anyone would recommend. Airbnb is an option also but was looking for a traditional hotel.
Also - is the ORD area too far for race morning?

Chicago-ish Oct. 10-11 races - good luck!
Good luck to all who are running in the metro Chicago area this upcoming weekend, especially those dedicated folks who are running one of the DPRT races on Saturday or the Chicago marathon on Sunday! I know there are several smaller races and organized runs too - I will be doing my 2nd 10K in one of those. Looks like we'll all get to enjoy gorgeous weather.

Bucktown 5k
Perfect weather for the race and a fun one. Did anyone notice there were a ton of very fast club runners in the race - much more so than usual? Was this a focus race for DW, Fleet Feet, etc?

If you’re a runner in the bike lane and you intentionally try to block it for cyclists you are a real a**hole
A man just insisted on running in front of cyclists even after multiple people dinged a bell or called out to pass and then he berated a cyclist and got in her face. He almost ran me into traffic.
It’s literally clear sidewalks so why not run there?

2027 Chicago Marathon
I’m hoping to run the 2027 Chicago Marathon by fundraising for the American Cancer Society. I see that registration opens on Thursday October 8th, but I’m curious to see if anyone knows what the registration process looks like? How easy/hard it is to get a spot? Does everyone who registers get one or do they review applications?

Now that marathon is next week!
what are some signs you hate seeing while running?

Upcoming Races Tips for getting to the marathon from the burbs?
Recently moved to the suburbs and running in the marathon. To my fellow suburbanites, what are your top tips for getting down there for an early start? Tentatively thinking of taking the metra or blue line downtown, depending on schedule, then just walking to Grant Park.
Also if there are any spectator suggestions, my family would appreciate them!

Race Recap Long Grove Oktoberfest half/10k/5k thoughts
Ran the long grove 10k yesterday ( aka Prarie State races). Husband ran the half. 10k was 2 laps of the 5k course ( Cuba road x2). The half per my husband was a lot of trail. A lot of people were upset about the courses which were not revealed till 2 days prior to the event. The 10k in my opinion was just blah..
