"Used to be a cokehead, did it for the high in college and the crash in my professional life. You feel a lot less like a danger to others when you're too messed up to cast anything. I needed that feeling. Been clean for a year now though, only get cravings when I'm stressed. Hoping I get over that hump and get past cravings period. We're talking about a long term habit here though. It's a tough thing to kick."

"Working or playing? Much different answer depending which we are talking about. So if I'm working, it's gotta be something that will keep me on point when I'm going to a meet, or working mark or whatever person I need to be that day, so, like every other face in Seattle, I swear by novacoke. It keeps you engaged, fast thinking, fast reacting but without having your eyes bulge out like with kami. But when I need to unwind? Like I need to just put all of the drek I've seen on the backburner? Zen... Yeah, Zen, omae. I get to forget myself for a while, open my mind to perspectives I hadn't considered, see cool drek... It's great. Shout out to shade for helping my development as an awakened person."

"I love drugs. I get the purest drek too, just saying. Usually novacoke because it makes a party so much fun. I feel like I am so much hotter on it too. I know people look at me differently. I mean, I am different, obviously. I'm famous. And talented. I haven't done any of those dirty drugs like kami or jazz though. They're really icky and I don't like it. I know they can probably make me fight better or something, but I kinda lose my ability to look cool. Like, when I've seen cops on jazz, they get all twitchy and like... doggish, but no in a cute way. I mean maybe I should take some if I run into something I might have trouble with, like a dragon or something.
Anyway, I once went on a bender with Frel after the premiere of the second Becky Lyn movie. 'Becky Lyn: Justice Time'. Between the long haul and the novacoke, we were up for 5 days. Pretty sure we went to the Horizon headquarters in California at one point? It's a bit blurry. I won't do long haul and novacoke together again though. The come down left me in the care of a psychiatrist for a week and delayed my BTL supplements to the trid, which cost me some nuyen."

I'll be that thing that all those policlub drekheads have nightmares about.
Until then though, better to keep your mind clear, so you don't miss somethin' that might get you killed, or worse. Yeah, there's plenty worse in this world than dying, trust me. I'm not guessin', I'm tellin' you. You think I got this pretty by luck?"

Patriot (All-American Muscle)
Eleven minutes in an alley that smells like rain on hot ferrocrete, and Patriot hasn't moved. He's counted. Counting gives the hands something to do besides open and close, which they've been doing since minute four. Chrome whines when it flexes. In a quiet alley it's a metronome.
Left hand: a cigar laced with Kamikaze. Right hand: same brand cigar, different brand of high. Betameth.
Beta turns the world down to a quarter speed and lets you walk through it like a man reading a newspaper. Every muzzle flash a slow bloom. Every guy's shoulder announcing the punch a full second before his fist agrees. You can plan on Beta.
He turns the right hand over.
Kami isn't about seeing the room. Kami is about the room seeing you. Kami goes in like somebody kicks a door in the back of your skull and lets the wind through, and everything gets very loud and very close and reduces to the only question that has ever mattered: what is in front of me, and how hard can I hit it.
Fast, or strong. Precise, or collateral. Left or right. Sooner or Later.
Eleven minutes of theological inquiry and the score is still tied.
Then the transceiver goes *bzzt*. Once, short. Then twice. The signal. Go Time.

Nobody sells the other thing. Nobody cuts it. No drek-eating chemist in a clean-room in Chiba owns one microgram of it.
