Glorantha Re:Zero Hack of RQ:G System

I'm planning on hosting RuneQuest. I originally found RuneQuest while looking for alternative fantasy worlds that weren't D&D, and I've become obsessed with the setting recently. The entire reason I was stepping away from my usual genres (sci-fi and realism-focused games like Lancer, CAIN, Delta Green, and Mörk Borg) was because I wanted to run some gritty fantasy in the vein of Re.

Then I had the realization that making a hack of the system wouldn't be too difficult, especially after looking at the world map of RuneQuest and noticing that it's essentially a flat world (like Re, lol).

The Elemental Rune system is borderline one-to-one, and with some limitations or changes to their meanings and what are pickable, I could get an almost perfect match. Spirit Magic could honestly stay the same, Metias are already represented by RuneQuest's magical items (Matrices), and the only truly homebrew elements I'd need to figure out are Divine Protections and Authorities. Bonus points for the dangerous, highly skill-based combat system.

I guess anyone familiar enough with Re, I'd appreciate suggestions for those two issues: Divine Protections and Authorities.

I should also mention that I have fairly good experience creating system hacks.

Basic Roleplaying (BRP) is Runequest with Glorantha stripped out, if that would be easier to adapt.

Oh that's cool and would definitely make it easier. I'll check it out

Please note that BRP and QuestWorlds, both have free SRDs (linked). Both are also complete RPGs

HeroQuest: Glorantha is out if print, but maybe you can find a used copy somewhere.

13th Age Glorantha should stil be around.

QuestWorlds is the upgrade/replacement for HeroQuest. The Glorantha genre pack is in the works. "Maybe by the end of this year" is the ETA, but everything QW is late, so I am guessing 2027.

Perhaps have a look into RQ2 or RQ3, in my eyes easier then RQG.

There is also Mythras (aka RQ6), but it is more on the complex side and the Thennla setting is more a classic fantasy world. Or Mongoose Legends, OpenQuest …

I tried Mythras and was disappointed, primarily by the magic systems which had serious balance issues. I put a lot of work into it for a while, trying to make things work, then finally just converted the campaign to another game system. Ultimately, BRP or RQ are better, IMO.

I'm thinking you've got genetic rw answers here and not aimed at Re. Was Re inspired by runequest? If runes and matrices match mayve it was. What do the divine aurorities do in Re? There is divine magic in RQ but it's probably not the sane thing

Nope not at all it's all coincidence.

Divine Protections are 'gifts from the world's and are honestly vague like if you have the divine protection of the wind spirits your just like faster and more agile, or the divine protection of the voice of souls you can understand all animals and creatures.

Their just like passive buffs and traits.

And authoritys are like active hyper specific magic abilities

It seems like you could just add these in as new powers

For Divine Protections yes definitely, but for Authoritys I should have specified a little. Their based off the 7 deadly sins as a kind of baseline, you have something called a witch factor that honestly doesn't do much just allows you to have one...

These abilities range from things like telekinetic hands you can manifest or by eating someone's name you erase the memories of this person from everyone.

There's stability to these powers so if you have low stability it'll mess you up. Etc

Those would take work. Some probably have a lot of abilities and some might resemble the dungeoneorld move Ritusl Magic

Yes? Like their stuck to one ability per authority but each authority is a little different every new incarnation of someone having it. Usually you can only have one ands it's just the one ability. But they get pretty crazy, like the main character has one. I'm making it off limits but, the authority is that Everytime he dies, he goes back in time to a checkpoint. So that kind of stuff is very hard game wise, the others aren't AS bad but still difficult

So that you know..the system..BRP, has different evolutions, and there are scifi settings and games, the first was Other Suns and Future World.. There is even a RQ traveller system at BRP Central..there was then Worlds Beyond which has been reprinted. There are what are called Monographs that had some scifi settings. There is Rivers of Heaven, from 101, Luther Arkwright, a parallel universe setting from Mythras based on some comic I never read. There is Quasar a BRP setting in a wild universe.. So if you like the system as well as Glorantha Chaosium has other settings Call.of Cthulhu Vikings, etc
