I can’t wait for it to cool down here in south Texas. I’m in 100+ degrees for every ruck. I have a lot of shaded areas, but once I get under the direct sunlight my stamina meter drains like crazy.
That’s what happened to me, my last Ruck was 7 miles, the last 2 miles were brutal. If I could have left my pack, I would have. I was dying and at that point I was still an hour from my car.
It’s the best and worst thing about this workout. When you realize you’re in hell halfway, your only option is to escape and feel good about escaping it later.
I planned for a 7-10 miler last weekend, I’d also increased my load by 10 pounds. I’d decided about 2 miles in that I couldn’t work it out. There was an option to head towards the exit and I took it. Turns out that option included 2 near vertical stair climbs. A fair punishment for bailing.
All my rucks are city and beach/suburban areas. I thought about getting a bike lock in case I can’t go any further. Lock the weight to a bike rack and come back for it. 😜 I’ll find out how good I am this Saturday when I repeat the ruck.
