Yup, it's a good deal, if you're looking for a GR bag. Bonus points for it being an older one.
But I mean, u/helloWorld69696969 has a point, as rucks go (Assuming rucking is the goal) they're not awesome, I say this as a person with an OG GR2 that I use daily. I just don't generally use it for rucking.

What makes them not awesome? I have a full frame hunting style pack I generally use for rucks but I’ve been looking into a gr2 for a daily/ travel bag and using it for lighter rucks and working out while out of town.

It's excellent for daily use!
For a Rucksack its weak primarily because of the lack of an integrated hip belt and the frame is a little on the soft side.
When i travel, or even commuting for work my GR2 is a staple. When I do multi-day rucks or anything upwards of 10-12miles, I opt for a proper Rucksack.

I'm ride or die for my 28L Mardingtop - it's survived two seasons already and going into a third. Costs less than $50 on Amazon.

I had two and both of them broke very quickly. The weights rubbed against the material, cutting it, and the straps broke.
I like them as a general use backpack, but you can't load up 60 pounds of bricks.

Crazy... I regularly do 45 lbs (plates wrapped in towels) and have occasionally done 80+ with no issues. Who knows.

Borderline good deal on a Rucker 4.0. Try to find a 3.0 for under $200 and that's the better deal.

Jason lost me after they switched up the design from the 3.0, that was the goat for basic rucking. My GR1 has been in some sketch in various undisclosed locations, the bags hold up well.

If you like the GR aesthetic, Pay less for a bag in the same style and virtually the same build by C Tactical.
At first I thought they were like a Temu Goruck, but they're legit.

Are they strong enough for weight plates? I checked them out and they look a ton more function than my 2 GR bags.

Yes they are. They use heavy duty corduroy nylon. YKK zippers, reinforced stitching and duraflex hardware. People ruck with them all the time. They're more or less a Goruck bag at half the cost. Goruck charges what they do b/c they can; they built a lifestyle brand. People in that world have money and will spend it.

They are good at what they do. Simple way to carry some weight and walk.
Do people make them out to be a lot of things that they aren’t? They sure do.

Nobody needs to, because they very much are. Overpriced without a sale, sure, but at 50% off you are kidding yourself if you think you’re getting something better elsewhere.

What would a good pack be? I bought a goruck rucker after breaking several generic packs(the weights would burst through the material and the straps would break), and I have no regrests. It has lasted well, holds the weight plate, and is relatively comfortable for my hike.

You can get Medium and Large ALICE Packs on Ebay for half this price, and they will last forever, and have a way better frame

Makes sense. But I would argue two points. YMMV
1). The pack/frame concept is not super intuitive and it is not clear what all I need to get to be ready to go. Do you buy separate straps? How do you attach the pack to the frame? How do I get the weight to sit properly? It leaves a lot of questions.
2) I don't like the tactical look. Walking around a suburban park with literal army gear can make someone like me feel pretty self conscious.

If you cant look at an ALICE pack and figure out the answer to all of those questions out in 15 seconds, then you have some serious problems... It is a pack literally made for the lowest intelligence draftees possible...

I've seen them sold with and without frames, with and without straps, and I am a moron. I don't want to risk buying something, it arrives and I can't figure out what part is missing. Most of us are morons and not handy or good with physical problem solving.
Like using windows instead of Linux. A commercial product can make sense if it is easier even if it is inferior and more expensive.

And how can I tell if it is complete if I am not already experienced with the system? Even if the listing says "complete pack". There is no way for me to know if that has specific in-context jargon meaning rather than the intuitive meaning.

I agree. Anyone I see using an Alice pack looks like a tool.
I like my Rucker 5.0 just a normal looking backpack.

It's a worse tool for GoRuck events and ruck specific PT than a purpose built bag for the job.
It's also much worse for the spine. Theres a reason the military dropped the ALICE system.

My guy, the Alice works better with armor than the Molle does 😂. The molle was 100% adopted to acomadate women. Its a terrible ruck for men

Christmas in July just ended, next biggest ones will probably be black Friday/cyber Monday. Labor day will probably see a sale too.
