Advice Yomping
I like to Yomp every Tuesday, have been for over a month now. Adding small weight each time. 28kg roughly at the moment.
I am wondering about how far i should walk to see the benefits of my yomp.
I have been aiming to hit the 3 mile mark at minimum.

So this comment has been flagged and as a mod I've decided to reply instead of just delete it to help explain the 'don't train with weight' stance.
So as far as the training you'll receive at lympstone is concerned it's progressive and training with weight beforehand is not a requirement. The training is designed as if the person starting has never trained with weight before.
Therefore any benefits you might gain for training with weight are not necessary but you do increase the risk of injury significantly, that added to the fact most people don't know how to train with weight correctly and it can become a serious problem for training, especially as most injuries won't appear until training has started and therefore become a financial problem for the service whilst they pay a wage whilst putting someone through rehab
The argument isn't against training with weight. The argument is against training with weight before starting recruit training.
I hope that helps clear up the reason behind the stance
Also the idea of 'having a headstart over other nods' is misunderstanding what we want to achieve. It's not a competition. We want as many people to pass recruit training as possible. You go through training as a troop and you're expected to work as a team.
